Ceramic Workshop Witteveen

At Witteveen Ceramic Workshop you can paint your own ceramics! Choose between undecorated cups, plates, wases etc. You don't need to have any knowledge before starting, just a positive attitude! Beside the workshop you find the Mountain Gallery where you can buy Susis' own art and other local artists art. The activity take about 2 hours and suits artists from the age of 4 to 99! At the workshop they also sell ceramics which have already been decorated.

The al Stave Church dating from the latter part of the 12th century was richly decorated at the time of its demolition in 1880. The main doorway and the ceiling painting can be seen at the medieval exhibition at the Historical Museum in Oslo. Some of the church's fittings as well as a copy of the al ceiling can be found at al Church. The site of the church was examined and planned and today it forms part of the church park. In the 1990s, the al Stave Church Museum in Prestegardslaven in the church park opened. The museum restores and displays decorative panels from stave churches and it has a copy of the al doorway. The exhibition provides information about al Stave Cchurch and about Norway’s other stave churches in Norway. Free admission for children up to the age of 16, when accompanied by an adult.

Al Outdoor Museum

al Bygdamuseum is built up around a listed farm yard from the 1600s. The museum has been supplemented with other buildings that could have belonged to the old farm, among others a cotters farm and a mountain farm with a stone cottage. Today, the museum has 30 buildings. The contents of the buildings tell the story of the everyday lives of previous generations. The museum has a beautiful location with a fantastic view over al. A museum brochure for the museum with a description of all the buildings can be found at al Tourist Information. The brochure also describes the other outdoor museums connected to Hallingdal Museum. Guided tours outside normal opening hours can be arranged after agreement.

Sangefjell Outdoor Cathedral

Sangefjell Outdoor Cathedral is an open-air church at about 1000 masl. It was consecrated in 2001 and is the only open-air church in the Tunsberg diocese. From Rd 7 take the road the Kleivi industrial area and follow it up to Sangefjell. 2 times a year there are services here, during Easter and summer. The cathedral contains 6 chapel: The chapel of creation, The Pilgrim Chapel, The Sinai Chapel, The Holy Family Chapel, The Cross Chapel and the Maria Chapel.

al Skicentre is situated in Votndalen, some 7 km from the centre of al. Nice family area, free-ride park and slopes for all skiers. Café, ski rental and ski school. The family and children’s section has a ski lift, a family slope and Slattajordet. The facilities enable skiers to progress to the level required for skiing right from the top of the mountain. al skicentre is most famous for the Svarteberg piste, one of Norway’s best giant slalom slopes. The national Norwegian men and women’s alpine ski teams frequently practise here. The parkarea is right beside the Svarteberg piste and contains several jump, which suits all levels of experience. There are also some rails. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening the tracks are floodlight.

Leveld Church

Leveld Church was built in 1880, which is the same year as al Church. Both churches also as the same architect Fritz von der Lippe. The altarpiece represents the Crucifixion, painted by Christen Brun. The church is being used for services 2 - 3 times a month, together with burials, weddings, baptisms and concerts. Altogether there is 200 seats in this church and it is located by the Rd 244 towards Bergsjo.

Our office is located in Aal Cultural Center by the ground floor entrance. We have brochures and suggestions for activities in and around Aal, Hallingdal and Eastern and Western parts of Norway. Bike Trips Torpo Opheim

You can start the trip in the centre of Torpo, but it's quite steep until you reach the toll road. To avoid the climb, you can start at the toll bar in Opheim. The terrain is kinder from here, and you have more opportunities to choose different roads and trips. You can choose to take the trip to Liatopppen and down the mountainside through Liagardane (it is also possible to cycle further around Votndalen) or to Breiseth. Another opportunity is to cycle pass oknin to Volelie (possibly over Syningen and down to Torpo) Possible trips: - Opheim - Liatoppen - Liagardane - Torpo - Opheim - Breiseth - Tjukketjorr - Opheim - Around Volelie

The Nesch Museum houses the world's largest permanent collection of the works of the internationally renowned German-born artist, Rolf Nesch (1893-1975). After many years wandering, Rolf Nesch moved to al in 1951. He lived and worked here for the last 25 years of his life. In 1993 - the year he would have turned 100-years old - a separate museum was established in al for his art. The museum's permanent collection comprises graphics, sculptures, collages and oil paintings, and is representative for an exciting range of his artistic oeuvre from 1916 to 1972. The museum is visited by art enthusiasts from all over Europe. Opening hours are extended during the summer season and guided tours are offered. Guided group tours can be arranged throughout the year after agreement.
