Mullerthal Trail

The Mullerthal Trail is the leading hiking track in the Mullerthal Region - Luxemburg's Little Switzerland. The Mullerthal Trail with more than 112 km is composed by 3 big tracks (Route 1, Route 2, Route 3).Route 1 and Route 2 pass through the City of Echternach which is largely known as the cultural and historic highlight of the region. The three routes each have their distinction:Besides the cultural highlights, Route 1 shows the typical landscape elements which are the rocks, forests and pastures. Route 2 passes through the heart of Luxemburg's Little Switzerland and offers most spectacular rock formations. Route 3 features next to the rock formations many stream valleys and romantic castles. The routes are all connected but can also be hiked separately. The hikes are all quite individual as departures can be undertaken from the various localities. Furthermore, the Mullerthal Trail offers four (smaller) tracks, the ExtraTours, which can also be characterized as very attractive hiking tracks. They can be considered as departures as well as additional tours when all the other hikes have been undertaken already. The Mullerthal Trail and the ExtraTours have been signalled completely which gives you a great feeling of security and prevents from having bad surprises. The Mullerthal Trail is leading repeatedly to beautiful view points and to natural and cultural highlights. Walking on the Trail is thus an unforgettable experience for every one.Children will love the region as the wonderful rock formations want to be explored and climbed. Parents of smaller children though should take especially good care and watch their children as security barriers are not always guaranteed. Attention: the paths can not be undertaken with a pram or wheelchair.

Vianden Castle

This is a very wonderful restored castle with amazing history and full of information, especially if you take the tour with an audio guide (early to download on your iPhone). There are many stairs but otherwise it's an easy tour that takes about 2 hours to complete. There is a gift shop and a nice cafe as well, which are attached to the very informative visitor center. Highly recommend - it has views of the quaint city below.

Philharmonie Luxembourg

Reviewed By RRaphaelJ - Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

Philharmonie Luxembourg in all it's beauty would have deserved to have been built on top of a mountain, to be seen from far away. At a first glance its more than 800 white columns somehow look like the strings of an exotic instrument which makes the building a true house of music. When you walk around the elliptical foyer and are so lucky to have a clear sky and the sun shining into the foyer from the south you are blessed with the most wonderful shadow-play created by the shadows of the offset columns which surround the foyer in rows of 2 and 3. Walking up the ramp inside the foyer reveals impressive seemingly insurmountable ravines, reminiscent of Vauban's architecture which gave Luxembourg-city some of it's characteristic looks. The acoustic inside is absolutely fabulous. Christian de Portzemparc has really placed a true gem among buildings that do make it stand out, not only because of it pure White color or because of its it's atypical shape but due to their "functional, sterile contemporary ugliness". Do not miss this beauty when in Luxembourg.

Towards the end of our Viking river cruise from the Swiss Alps to Paris, we toured through Luxembourg and the American Cemetery. Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site atop a gorge cliff. We viewed attractive houses, the Place d’Armes, the Monument of the Millennium and the Grand Ducal Palace. Just outside the city center, the American Cemetery holds more than 5,000 U.S. soldiers buried here after the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1945. We saw the grave of General George S. Patton.
