The 10 Best Things to do Good for Kids in Lake Louise, Canadian Rockies

October 18, 2021 Flossie Demartino

Alpine, cross-country skiing, heli-skiing and snowboarding are popular activities in quiet Lake Louise, 35 miles east of Banff, as are ice fishing, skating, dog sledding and ice climbing. In summer, the area attracts almost as many visitors to its trails, waters and rock faces. Peer into turquoise Lake Louise in Banff National Park, three miles from the town of the same name, and be amazed by the color. The renowned grand hotel Chateau Lake Louise sits at the brim of the eponymous lake.

Moraine Lake

This beautiful lake nestled in the mountains is best known for its appearance on the back of the Canadian dollar bill.

Moraine Lake is one of the main sightseeings in Banff National Park, one of the three national parks, which are close with others: Yoho, and Jasper National Parks. Here it is possible to do some different excursions (we did one, the Consolation Lake Trial about 6 km surrounding the lake and go up to a the other lake), really a wonderful excursion with great views of the lake and surroundings.. Near the lake, there are some natural areas of forest, where you can see also very beautiful views. A Top in (West) Canada!!! In fact, the best views are from a little top in front of Morraine Lake, from where you can see incredible views of the lake and the Valley of Ten Peaks. (See also Banff National Park, Minnenwanka Lake, Consolation Lake, Louise Lake, Herbert Lake, Hector Lake, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Johnston Canyon, Mistaya Canyon, Crowfoot Glacier, Bow Glacier, North Saskatchewan River, Valley of Ten Peaks).

Driving back from the Icefield we happened upon this hidden gem. We were able to drive to top parking lot so only a short walk out to the lookout through a pine forest that was so beautiful with the snow on the trees from the snow we received that morning (yes in June!) When you get to the lookout the view of Peyto Lake is breathtaking. The colour is brilliant blue. So glad we found this beauty!

Lake Louise is a real western classic, and wow it did delivered! I skied there for 2 days during the first week of february and got at least a foot of fresh powder on the first day. Being mid-week there was no crowds. On the tuesday it was mostly top to bottom all day, thursday had a bit more people but nothing crazy. The choice of runs and bowls is just amazing, there is something for everyone. If you are not comfortable with blacks and double-blacks, all lifts even the highest ones have green or blue tracks access so you can cruise your way down easily while your buddies drop through some crazy gullies. With such a variety of terrain, it's honestly hard to get bored. Don't expect a flashy touristic village at the base, it's just a big lodge with a gondola and a quad lift, and it's perfect like that.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

We have just finished a wonderful week at the Fairmont Chateau. The highlights of the week are: The Ice Magic festival was amazing: teams of 2 working for 36 hours to create amazing ice sculptures with chainsaws , drills, and irons ... cannot believe the artwork they created ( it was -30 degrees as well) Gold Floor: the food, the service , the room and most of all the view is amazing. We are a family of 4 sharing one room with 2 queens, we loved breakfast every morning ( omelettes by Conner and the team were a highlight) the all day snacks and drinks were also used each day. Some nights if we had lunch we would just have the gold lounge canapés for dinner .. they were great .. the concierge would also organise anything you needed. The Night Snow Shoe experience: booked this in for our last night in Lake Louise and had a great experience. The weather had warmed up and our guide was both knowledgeable and great fun. Recommend this to families, as long as you can walk you can snowshoe Book in a photo session: the professional photographers are great, we walked In a 30 minute photo session which produced great photos with no fuss (I am not a photo shoot fan and I enjoyed it :-) ) Overall cannot praise the lake Louise team highly enough ... well done

Bow Glacier Falls Trail

Reviewed By AnnapolisHiker_MD - Annapolis, United States

The trail is very easy most of the way. It begins at the end of a gravel parking lot and winds along the shore of Bow Lake. The day we were there the wind was stiff coming off the lake and it was very smoky from the fires to the west so the views across the lake weren't the best but still nice. There is one spot at the head (inlet) of the lake where the trail is not easy to discern. It sort of disappears along a shallow spot in the stream with some small places to place your feet as you try to avoid stepping in the water. That only lasts for about 50 ft or so and then the path becomes easier to follow. For a short time the path enters a wooded area where you must go up and down from the stream and back to the stream bed. Lots of tree roots in this area so be careful. The trail opens up and crosses a wide expanse of rocky/gravelly area with the rushing stream in the middle. Eventually you need to climb probably 100 ft up a "staircase" but once over this spot the trail is again easy and flat. The view of the falls is rewarding because it is relatively high fall with very noisy water flow. Across the rocky area to the base of the falls are rock cairns along the way to keep you from wandering to far afield. This is a very nice hike that most people will be able to complete. Give it a go!
