Purpa Fine Art Gallery Seminyak

Purpa Fine Art Gallery offers a unique collection of contemporary art by both established and emerging artists. We have represented most of the artists, not only Indonesian artists but artists of all nationalities who live in Bali or spend time here. Some of the artists are now recognized worldwide such as Walter Spies, Antonio Blanco, Hans Snell, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, Miguel Covarrubias, Arie Smit, Krijono and many others. It has been our goal to work with our artists for the long term, assisting them through their careers by exhibiting their works at our gallery and placing them in prominent collections. We strive to present works by emerging and mid career artists that inspire, excite, and intrigue our diverse clientele. Ari Purpa

Very interesting and high quality range of beautiful Art pieces at Purpa ! We bought 2 paintings, one on site and a second about a week after leaving Bali. Ari and Sebastien are sincere and engaging. They love Art and were very warm and friendly in sharing their knowledge and helping us to choose our paintings Ari was very professional and helpful in helping arrange and monitor the delivery of our second painting by courier. We are very happy with our experience with Purpa and intend to visit Ari and Sebastien again this year :)

Padar Island

Reviewed By SusanW4197 - Kiama, Australia

To get there it is boat ride from Labuan Bajo - day trip possible but most go for a few days. Most boats aim to get to Padar for sunrise or sunset so it's busy. Ours arrived early and it was still hot so we climbed to summit earlier than most and then went down and climbed the other summit - which is a very narrow slippery treacherous track (which guides discourage) But, we did it discretely and were alone on this summit for sunset and avoided crowds at the top. Generally hot in middle of day and climbing summit would be very hard - so avoid unless cooler.

Bali Bird Park

Enjoy walking around and get along with a thousand birds and its habitat. The Park is divided into seven regions that recreate the natural habitats of our birds, complete with indigenous plant life. You can travel from the deep misty jungle of Sumatra to Far East Indonesia and Papua to discover the native birds from these remote regions. Venture to other tropical continents too. See the South American exotics such as the Golden Macaw and the Congo Grey Parrot from the African Savannah. Enter into their real living environment and see how they play with their colony, how they breed, and feel their happiness. You'll love them. Be entertained with our various bird shows and feeding activities and also many special programs made only for you. Take photos from lots of incredible scenes and taste the richness of local Balinese culinary and international cuisine from our fantastic menus in the restaurant.

This was our fourth family visit. The park continues to make incremental improvements and is great for all generations of the family. It has always offered a great day out with well managed and accessible natural exhibits set in a pleasing park like environment - many of the birds are kept in the open or in bigger aviaries ( though some are kept in smaller cupboard cages, which seem to be being phased out). The birds come from a wide background including SE Asia, South America, and South Africa. There are specific areas for, and more focus on, Sumatra, Borneo, Papua, Java and of course Bali. There is a Komodo Dragon exhibit as well. The bird shows and feeding sessions are not gimmicky or exploitative and the staff seem genuinely interested in, and caring for, the birds there. There is a very good cafe onsite which is offers snacks and lunch ( Balinese and international food). Best suggested time to visit is mid morning to avoid the worst of the traffic, catch the shows and then have a later lunch and drinks when it gets hotter.

Merapi Volcano

Reviewed By pondheron - Mumbai, India

We took the 90 minute mini Jeep Tour to Merapi - a little apprehensive about the rainclouds that obscured the sky through most of the day. The brightly coloured old red Jeep with a young man at the wheel bumped across the route - which was mostly paved , slowed by oncoming truck traffic carrying volcanic ash away for construction. We stopped at a village which had been damaged by the lava in the 2010 eruption - preserved complete with skeletons of cattle, burnt motorcycles and home appliances, a volcanic rock that was shaped like a face and appropriately called The Alien, and finally at the last lookout point 4.5 kms from the imposing volcano. The rain clouds cleared after a drizzle and the volcano was clearly visible - smoking ominously. An eerie and imposing sight on a dull drizzly day. The route is dusty so make sure you use the dust cover or take care especially if you are asthmatic or allergic. A very enjoyable drive with a fascinating view. Well worth the price of ₹1750 (Rp 350000) for 2.

Jatiluwih Green Land

Nominated for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Jatiluwih offers a beautiful view of contoured rice terraces irrigated using an impressive communal water system developed by Balinese farmers. The scenic drive through the quaint villages and verdant slopes of the central coastal regency of Tabanan adds to the experience.

Reviewed By PutuBaliHoliday - Bali, Indonesia

The Jatiluwih rice terraces in the namesake upland village in West Bali are most famous for their dramatic and exotic landscapes. The cool highlands and the breathtaking scenery of this village at the foot of Mount Batukaru makes for wonderful photo opportunities, and serves as a soothing retreat away from the island’s crowded south. Once a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site candidate, the Jatiluwih rice terraces comprise over 600 hectares of rice fields that follow the flowing topography of the Batukaru mountain range. These are maintained by a traditional water management cooperative known as ‘subak’, which dates back to the 9th century. The cooperative itself eventually won recognition as a dominant factor in Bali’s ‘cultural landscape’ entry on the heritage list.
