Well, if you like the chalk cliffs or not, everybody has to decide for himself. They are characteristic for Rügen, so take a look at them. There are different places where you can especially look at this natural spectacle. Of course the Victoria observation deck is a nice point (maybe the most beautiful one)? But along the Hochuferweg there are so many beautiful perspectives that you should not miss. If you go there by car, it's your own fault (parking, fees, still walking). You can not get lost... and public transportation goes there as well. We saved the entrance fee, because we were not interested in the Documentation Center, only movement in the open air, view, once from Sassnitz, once from Lomme. Important: Near Königsstuhl it will be full, just as near Sassnitz. In between there is a lot of peace and quiet. Recommended if you are good on foot, to walk back down to the sea (to Sassnitz). Here the rocky outcrops become really dramatic.

Adored this little steam train that runs between Binz and Goehren. Most of the carriages are traditional ones with a roofless viewing one in the middle, which was amazing on a sunny day. There is a restaurant car also. It felt like being on an actual toy train going through toy towns & villages and stretches of forest. Throughout there was the smell of the steam engine and train hooting. Going from Baabe to Goehring was a steal at £2.20 per person (single) There is a dedicated bicycle carriage too. I read somewhere that the train runs every 2 hours but we found it to be leaving hourly (not sure what the explanation is). You can buy the tickets at the station ticket office or on the train itself. Staff were very friendly.

We really enjoyed our visit to this hunting lodge. Parking is a bit complicated; you need to park in one of the official lots off site and then pay to ride the tram to the lodge. We enjoyed visiting the castle, but the climb to the top of the tower yielded magnificent views and was worth every step!. The grounds were lovely, they have a nice cafe and a great outdoor space to sit and relax.

Nationalpark Jasmund Konigsstuhl

The Jasmund National Park is home to the magnificent chalk coast of the island of Rügen and the Jasmund peninsula with its hilly plateau. Beech forests, chalk cliffs and the sea form fascinating scenery, which cast its spell over the artists of the Romantic period and even today has lost nothing of its stunning attraction. Within the 3,102-hectare protected area, the largest contiguous beech forest on the Baltic coast covers 2,100 hectares of land.As a UNESCO World Heritage Area "Ancient Beech Forests of Germany", a representative section of landscape, partially unaffected by humans, in the east of the Jasmund National Park was identified, which extends from the drift line of the Baltic, up the steep coast to the plateau. The size of the area is 493 hectares.

The dimensions are, if you stand in front of it, unbelievable big. The block is over 5km long. There is not much left of the gigantic central building, there the central passage to the Baltic Sea goes. There are not many buildings left in a bad condition, most of it is luxuriously renovated, but the cafes, restaurants, stores and hotels are in the normal price segment. The last buildings in front of the central building are under reconstruction now. This is the view from outside. But the visitor center makes the trip round, which makes clear in all drama what it is all about, even if the KdF building was not finished during the Third Reich. In the exhibition - which offered a very interesting special exhibition about jurisdiction and the constitution - the whole of the Third Reich is emphasized too much. Much is important for understanding what was going on here, but not everything is appropriate, but that is for the curator to decide. We think the KdF buildings are a must on Rügen. You can walk over there from Binz. The café in the exhibition is a gift, down by the buildings are very
