Shatrunjaya hill temple

Reviewed By Bhanuraman2003 - Mysuru (Mysore), India

By far the most amazing temple complex I have seen, next only to the one in Siem Reap in Cambodia. I stayed at sumeru hotel in Palitana for a night. And had to leave early morning at 6 AM to go to the top. There are 3750 steps to climb up and numerous temples enroute. I took a Doli , paying Rs.3000/ for a four member carriage up. I took this for two reasons- to negotiate steep climbing (I am 65 years old with bad knees) and to provie them their first income during COVID times. It took two and half hour to go up as I did a lot of climbing and waling on my own also with a stick, to provide the bearers some relief. The 800 odd temples, 16000 statues atop the hill and some 36000 statues strewn across the hillside( I of course couldnt see all) are out of the world. I went on the roof top and got the full overview of all the temples and got some amazing shots too. should not miss if travelling to Gujarat, India.

Girnar Temples

Reviewed By Rajiv629

There are several temples on the mountains of Girnar (climb starts from Junagadh) We were there a day after Shivaratri so were fortunate to escape the crowd of a million people which had gathered at the base of the mountain for the festival. We started the climb of 9999 steps leading to the Datta temple atop the mountain at around 3 pm. There is also the Ambaji temple which is at approx 8000 steps. One must remember to pick a walking stick (usually of bamboo) available at shops at the base on rent. The climb is stiff but there are shops on the way which sell water and lemon juice and a few snacks for those who get exhausted. We carried Electrol packets with us which we had intermittently to get our energy back. We also carried some chocolates and energy bars; can't eat too much as it makes the climb difficult. Devotees climb and descend the mountain almost 24 ×7 ,and there is nothing to fear. Of course carry a small tor torch during night time as it is necessary both for ascent and discent. The climb is tough but we came across men and women in their 70s also completing the journey safely. A reasonably comfortable speed would complete the darshan and back to base in 8 to 10 hours.

Place is located near vadinar. Nearest city is jamnagar which is around 40-50 kms away. Best time to visit this place is early morning because sea water is very less and you will see most of sea animals like octopus, star fish, jelly fish, crabs etc. Better to hire guide so that they will help you find sea animals. Place is quite peaceful and should be visited with friends and family on weekends.

White Desert

Reviewed By Saikat_on_wheels - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

I chose a full Moon day in February. A bus from the Tent City and a camel cart drove us into the vast expanse of the Desert. I walked toward the horizon and it receded from me as I approached, leaving only the white crust of salt all around me. The sight put me into a trance. Never before had I encountered with such an otherworldly sight. The Sun set on the white desert. A strange feeling of smallness crept into my heart before the enormity of the wilderness of The Nature. I got back to the Tent and again, around 10 pm, I was driven into the place with the Full Moon overhead. And Lo and Behold! It is where the fairies land to whisper their mysteries into the ear. I was really hypnotized by the beauty of the Great Desert. The chill of February night didn't touch me.

Great Rann of Kutch

Reviewed By sbdas11 - Leicester, United Kingdom

The entire experience of visiting the White Rann was truly memorable. We stayed at the Tent city for a night and visited the Rann from there . The Tent city stay was brilliant ,from the welcome to the food ( a little more variety could do more good to International travellors ) ,entertainment ,amenities (there are cycles, carts, ziplines ,para motoring ,spa within the Tent city top class . Every morning and evening there are buses taking the guests to the Rann. After a little ride ,you take camel carts to the centre. The view is breathtaking ,white all around. You have local artisans there .There is provision to wear Kutchi attire and take photos. We did that. The best part is the sunset and walking on the salt flat .We infact were a bit doubtful whether the salt flats had formed this year or not.Since we kept hearing that there was unprecedented rainfall in that area. But it was so breathtaking the view around us.So glad we went for a stay at the Tent city for the year end celebrations in 2019 .After sunset instead of taking the bus back to the city ,we took the camel cart and the ride in pitch darkness was thrilling. Rann Utsav and the White Rann together make a truly winning package for anybody.Highly recommended trip for all ages.

Dattatreya Temple

Reviewed By ukaashikar - Pune, India

Its was excellent experience of climbing the hills in night. Worth a visit once in life. On normal days, the dattatreya temple closes at 12 midnight and opens again in morning between 5 am and 5:30 am. On average a person in good health, travelling for first time, takes around 6 to 7 hrs to climb 10000 steps. One must start accordingly to reach temple when its open. On normal days the shops along the climbing path is generally closed by 9:00 pm and again start opening by 2 or 3 am in night. On Poornima days the temple is open through out night so no problem. The shops are also open through out the night. One must keep in mind that its not a easy climb. we must carry minimum luggage, water bottle must while travel. Night travel is better as compared to day travel for first timers. Once your reach the temple, we dont get prasad from temple , as in many other temples, but what ever we have pujari does the ritual and returns it back to us. carry some item with you if you want to carry it back as prasad /offerings. Climbing down is actually a pain and I dont mince the words, its actually a pain. knee pain starts. So it slows down the decent. have enough limewater intake to keep up the salt levels. Towards the end of decent, when still 400 odd steps are remaining , you can see some massage people to help you relieve some leg pain. Rs 50 for 5 to 7 mins massage, doesnt make much difference, but you can have an experience.
