Geiranger Fjord

Reviewed By garyrU7172XN - Melbourne, Australia

This fjord is gorgeous, the narrowness of it with near sheer vertical snow capped mountains surrounding and cascading waterfalls makes it a picture perfect setting that is almost unbelievable. There are a few elevated viewing points that are ideal to make the most of the stunning scenery and capturing outstanding photos. A cruise on the fjord is well worthwhile to maximise the fjord in its entirety.

Geiranger Skywalk - Dalsnibba

We took a Mt Dalsnibba moutain bus trip with Fjordservice to the top of this mountain, reasonably priced. The journey was beautiful as you started at the green fjord with waterfalls at Geiranger, through green pastures and waterfalls on this winding road, then through tundra with more and more snow until you got to the top of Mt. Dalsnibba with its snow covered rocky peaks. This road goes through some of Norway's best scenery. We were lucky to have a clear day, although the clouds rolled in while we were there. I was amazed at the skill of our driver as the steep road is too narrow in places for two vehicles to pass so one has to stop at the wider sections. I can't imagine driving this in bad weather. This skywalk was just opened in 2016 and provides a nice viewing platform for a panoramic view of the scenery around you. You can see down to our starting point in one place. Even in summer, there is some snow here. Part of it is a toll road. There is a nice gift shop at the top and picnic tables. Very cool. I liked passing Djupvatnet, a beautiful lake with a hotel.

Good folks at activegeiranger accommodated us even though we reached after their regular hours without prior booking (we got blocked on our way due to mountain explosion). It was just two of us for a group tour and yet, birthday boy, Roger, guided us on the #kayak and gave us a lot of interesting information about #Geiranger and the mountains surrounding it which made the whole experience amazing. Roger was fun, energetic and a pretty good photographer (he has taken the below pictures) We took guided tour and kayaked for 3 hrs to see the seven sisters falls on a 250+ mts deep #fjord with an active cruise route (#kayaking on those #cruise #waves was thrilling). My bum went numb by end of 3hrs but that could be because we did 3 days of hike before coming here. Other than that this is great kayak experience, and #activegeiranger folks are just amazing. I definitely recommend this

When we got off of our cruise ship we first walked up the road that winds out of Geiranger. After we got up near the little church we discovered that there is another sidewalk with steps that goes along the river where there are multiple waterfalls. It's all a wonderful setting in this small town set at the end of a gorgeous fjord.

You can already see the eagle turns (ornesvingen) from the Geiranger cruise. It has a lot of turns and has nice view on its view point. It hasn’t much parking lot, so please be quick when you finished taking photos so others also can park their car and enjoy the view.
