The 10 Best Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Sittingbourne, England

December 30, 2021 Rosalyn Ihle

Sittingbourne is an industrial town situated in the Swale district of Kent in south east England, 17 miles (27 km) from Canterbury and 45 miles (72 km) from London. The town sits beside the Roman Watling Street, an ancient British trackway used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons and next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey. The town became prominent after the death of Thomas Becket in 1170, since it provided a convenient resting point on the road from London to Canterbury and Dover.

This museum is Covid aware and yet the visit is not compromised by the restrictions. Being mostly in doors is also a bonus. One small group at a time means personal attention from the knowledgeable staff there. We went during their Harvest display and learnt so much. The tea room is very reasonable and there’s a lovely selection of unusual things for sale. Going back in November and will buy some Xmas presents. Such a lovely hidden treasure.

Booked a private course for a friend and I as part of a work project exploring micro adventures in the UK and had so much fun. Monique was a brilliant mentor and the end product was some amazing baked goods, a wealth of knowledge and the confidence to recreate the recipes myself at home for the family.

So much fun for kids and parents alike! We created gifts for grandparents and Christmas decorations. I brought my 4 year old and 2 month old and the staff were amazing with both...helping my eldest with his creation and manipulating my youngest to create perfect handprints on the memorabilia. Much recommended, especially for when soft play is open again! It’s hard to keep a 4 year old and still!
