Michael Quirke - Wood Carver

Michael Quirke is a rare gem of a human being! His intimacy with Irish faerie tales and mythology left me greatly inspired when my wife and I were fortunate enough to visit Erin's green isle back in 2014. What makes his knowledge so incredible to me is that he's clearly had time to stitch together the stories he tells into a cohesive tapestry of tales over a lifetime. He was willing to carve a small sample carving for free--and I am STILL resolved to surprise my wife with a statue of the goddess Brigid from his outstanding shop! I'm saving up for this Yule and hoping I can afford the cost + shipping all the way from Fotla to Califia!

Well worth a visit. My 4 and 6 year old really enjoyed all this indoor playground had to offer. The staff were friendly and attentive during our visit. We felt safe during our visit, with our temps taken on arrival, tables socially distanced and hand sanitizerrs available throughout. Although we did not have hot food, it looked good. The coffee we got as super.

O'Donnell's Pub

The traditional Bar with its beautiful black oak backdrop has a warm welcoming feel. The open fire with its log and turf blaze catches the eye of the weary stranger and local alike. Called the Guinness House O Donnells is renowned for its Guinness on Tap, with the barrell located beside the dispenser the locals believe this is the key to good drink. A steaming hot whiskey or irish coffee expertly made by one of the family soon restores the weary traveller.

Lillies Sligo

Lillies Cocktail Bar, Sligo's No.1 Nightlife Experience. Home of the Pornstar Martini, Live Music and 1970's nostalgia in Sligo.

I went for there during a girls night out with my friends. All 8 of us (with very different tastes and standards) raved about the cocktails and staff. The atmosphere was so fun and carefree. I’d definitely try and work in a visit to your holiday itinerary if nearby. Lillie’s has a lovely cosy pub feel complete with dark wood and fairy lights. It has a novelty TV guide styled cocktails menu and staff that are efficient, pleasant, and witty. Love this place and would highly recommend

He is the last of the Irish gentleman and full of knowledge and still tries what he can do to sell something along the way even without you even noticing ha ha Even just to browse and visit such a store is a treat in itself Staff are fantastic and friendly Don’t miss out when visiting Sligo It on I Connell street

Hazelwood House

Hazelwood House, an important Palladian mansion, was constructed in 1730 to the designs of Richard Castle, architect of Leinster House, Powerscourt House and Westport House. W.B. Yeats has a strong connection to Hazelwood; it was the inspiration of one of his most famous poems: The Song of Wandering Aengus. MAGNETISM is a major contemporary exhibition, taking over seven rooms of the old Saehan factory, also located on the site, where the extraordinary scale of the space allows for the exhibition of what could be called “extreme objects”; large-scale works that populate the immense rooms of the factory. These dynamic sculptural works have a transformative effect on the former industrial spaces – including the huge videotape ‘pancake’ stores and welder’s workshop – through inflatables, lighting, motors, draping and film projection. One of the world’s top suppliers of magnetic tape, Saehan was one of the biggest manufacturing employers in the West of Ireland. The Sligo plant closed in April 2006 following the dramatic decline in the videotape market.
