d'Arenberg

The idea to build the d'Arenberg Cube came to Chief Winemaker Chester Osborn in 2003. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester created the idea of a cube-shaped building. Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses, including features such as a wine inhalation room, a virtual fermenter, a 360degree video room, and many other tactile experiences. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Alternate Realities Museum, located on the ground floor, and view the many art installations on display. The tasting room is located on the top floor, and is open 7 days a week 10am - 5pm.

We were a little concerned that this place had been too hyped up and overrated but it was actually an amazing experience even for me who doesn't actually enjoy wine all that much. The cube is impressive and it's worth just going to get a photo. But I can also highly recommend the tastings on the top floor. Our wine guy James was super friendly, really attentive and engaging, and made it feel like quiet a personal experience even when there were so many people around in the tasting room. I recommend getting there first thing in the morning otherwise it gets super busy. When we left there were people having to line up to get in. And I wouldn't bother with the gallery. Just pay the $15 for the rest of the experience and it should be a pretty enjoyable time!

Coriole Winery

Coriole Vineyards was founded by Hugh and Molly Lloyd in 1967. Coriole is still owned by the Lloyds and is now managed by second and third-generation family members. The estate is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted in 1919. Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted on the estate. Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of Sangiovese and Italian varieties since 1985.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards

Wirra Wirra is a James Halliday 5 Star Winery and its hero wine, Church Block, is the largest selling red blend in its category in Australia. The ironstone buildings that have been at the heart of Wirra Wirra have recently been refurbished to create a world class facility that includes the main cellar door with a range of exclusive wines, Harry's Deli, a relaxed provedore style cafe, a range of behind the scenes tours of the winery and historic ironstone cellars, plus spacious gardens that are the perfect location to enjoy a regional platter or family BBQ. All only 40 minutes from the city of Adelaide.

Reviewed By RebeccaRoseHart - Adelaide, Australia

Wirra Wirra was particularly a must see for us as Churchblock is one of our household favourites so we were keen and eager to try the other wines on offer. The grounds are beautiful, and the wines exceeding already high expectations, we love red so these full bodies, full flavour reds made a lasting impression on us. It was also great to try a few of the cellar door exclusive reds and we picked our self up a nice bottle to store away for a later date. Wirra Wirra provides such a relaxing environment in a picturesque setting to enjoy a light meal and a few glasses of wine. The outside area overlooking the vineyards i find particularly relaxing and enjoyable. You can also get a private tour of the vineyards and wine making though i haven’t yet done this yet myself, i have heard its an amazing experience from friends. There is also a shiraz master class with chocolate that you can do and I’m sure some other little experiences so check this place out not just for wine tasting, but for some more intimate couple experiences that would be sure to be a great day out. At the tasting area, staff are very informative and will provide you with lots of information about Wirra Wirra wines and their history. It truly is a fantastic way to spend the day or the weekend, at the least, a couple of hours here goes so quickly. They serve good quality local assorted meats, cheeses and breads so I recommended taking the time to soak it all in and pair some good quality wine with some local produce. Look forward to returning again.
