The Otsuka Museum of Art is a "Ceramic board masterpiece art museum" with the largest exhibition space in Japan. Inside, there are more than 1,000 ceramic reproductions of Western art. These masterpieces are reproduced to their original size using special techniques by the Otsuka Ohmi Ceramics Co., Ltd. Unlike the paintings in art books or textbooks, visitors will able to appreciate the true artistic value of the original works, and experience art museums of the world while being in Japan.
Otsuka Pharmaceutical's pet project to make the world's art pieces accessible to the world. Built inside a mountain, on the tip of Shizuoka is this museum of ceramic replicates of the world's greatest art pieces. Probably one of the only places one can see modern greats like Andy Warhol, Salvatore Dali, and Picasso all on one floor. To see the most famous pieces of Michael Angelo, Van Goh, Gaugin, Renior, Rafael, Rodrigues, Vermeer, Rubins all in one building is pretty amazing. They have a recreation, in its exact dimensions, the Sistine Chapel. Rooms devoted to the annunciation, self-portraits, and recreation of Monet's Nymphéas outside. While these are only exact replicas, it is a great way to see and appreciate these masterpieces in the same building. You can do comparisons without having to travel around the globe. It really builds appreciation for art and culture. Currently, there is a COVID19 shortened free guided tour of about 40 minutes. Regularly it is 2 hours. In Japanese only. There is an audio guide for a fee. Available in many languages. Parking is very far away but there are shuttle busses that come every few minutes to shuttle you back and forth.

Absolutely amazing experience, the awesome shrine is well worth the effort to go all the way up the 785 stone steps to the top. The view is wonderful and the many stone lanterns and small shrines along the path create a mystic atmosphere.

I came to Iya Valley specifically to stay here. The drive to Iya Onsen is spectacular, and my stay at Iya Onsen was nothing short of amazing. the staff were so helpful and courteous, the food was fantastic, and the scenery from the hotel, from the cable car to the onsen, and the onsen itself has to be experienced to be believed. I'm determined to come visit Iya Onsen again.

Photographs don't do justice to the power of this place. Profoundly spiritual experience. The breathtaking architecture and the subtle, mesmerising art installation form such a perfect whole. We stayed for almost 90 minutes in near silence, just sitting on the floor, watching the droplets of water first form and then launch on their serendipitous journeys, watching the breeze play with a white ribbon, observing others observing the water drops, walking around the curving, circular structure and feeling very moved by it all.

The Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge was the first bridge I crossed while doing the Shimanami Kaido starting in Imabari. The bridges are all unique and pretty in their own way. This bridge was by far the largest and longest. To get to the bridge, you have to cycle up hill quite a bit which is expected and makes for a fun downhill on the other side. If cycling, there is a large cycle path on the side of the bridge which separates you from vehicles, it's very nice! The views from the bridge are gorgeous as well, I managed to catch the sunrise here and it was fantastic!
