There are plenty of companies offering boat trips to the Farne Islands and we were very pleased with ours offered by Billy Shiels. It combined an enjoyable cruise around the islands (including views of grey seals, cliff faces full of birds and Grace Darling’s Longstone Lighthouse) with an hour on Inner Farne which has boardwalks, toilets and information, so very visitor friendly. For our short visit, we shared the island with thousands of birds, including cormorants, terns and puffins feeding their young with beaks full of sand eels. I’ve never before seen so many puffins, nor been so close to them. Inner Farne is managed by the National Trust who have a kiosk on Seahouses quay where you should pay to land (or show your membership card) in exchange for a wrist band before embarking on the boat.

This place is totally amazing, when we went in i was a little disappointed that they weren't doing the bird of prey displays, but i soon changed my mind. first we looked at all the birds, and they do have many to see, but the highlight was being able to watch the very knowledgeable staff feed 3 of the birds, and they told us so much about the birds, they fed a falcon, a small grey owl and an American barn owl that was only 14 weeks old. This truly was the highlight of our holiday. I hope lots of people visit, particularly at the moment in these troubled times.

The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close-knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past, distinctive plants and much, much more. It shares a boundary with the Yorkshire Dales National Park in the south and extends as far as the Tyne Valley, just south of Hadrain's Wall, in the north. Parts of the North Pennines AONB are in the three counties of Cumbria, Durham and Northumberland. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is exactly what it says it is: an outstanding landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are so precious that it is in the nation's interest to safeguard them.There are 46 AONBs in Britain (33 wholly in England, four wholly in Wales, one which straddles the English/Welsh border and eight in Northern Ireland) and they cover 18% of our countryside. AONBs are designated in recognition of their national importance and to ensure that their character and qualities are protected for all to enjoy.

Just spent the afternoon visiting the monumental art installation that is 'Hush' in Upper Teesdale - can't tell you how much joy it brought me. A lovely amble through woodland and farm yards to get to Bales Hush and it was well worth the effort. The sun came out and the sails of fabric dazzled in the breeze. Met some fantastic people - fellow walkers, locals who lived nearby and even the artist - Steve Messam. Start your adventure at Bowlees Visitor Centre. Wear some sturdy shoes as it can get a bit damp under foot but hurry as it will be gone by 5th August.

Fab few hours with my 10 year old son here. The instructor (Hannah) was great, good balance of humour whilst still making sure we all new what we were doing. And she was so supportive when my son had a little ‘wobble’ early on. After he got through the first Tarzan slide, he loved the rest of it, particularly the zip lines! I thought the 2nd Tarzan slide on stage 5 was awesome, but not for the feint-hearted. Great fun, great place, good exercise, highly recommended. I will be taking my work colleagues here for a corporate day in the future!

Owned by David & Tori, formerly Walworth Castle Birds of Prey based at Walworth Castle, Darlington. We are relocating in the new year to Bishop Auckland, Co Durham. We now offer private offsite falconry experiences, hunting experience days, educational school visits, offsite displays, wedding ring deliveries and entertainment, a falconry display team for country shows, game fairs etc. and pest control services across the North East of England. Please note once we relocate we will no longer open as a visitor centre, all experiences must be booked in advance.

Walworth Castle Birds of Prey:- Is a seperate business to the Walworth Castle Hotel - run independently by Dave, Tori (and her mum Gail, who assists from time to time and other staff). They have a good sense of humour, very informative and knowledgeable about their Birds of Prey and Falconry, The Birds of Prey was closed for the Winter season while we visited, but they will still take bookings online or via telephone, email. But on speaking to staff from the hotel, they stated if I see the Birds of Prey van there, Dave or Tori will be there and go and see the Owners of the Birds of Prey who would allow àn arranged visit, convenient to them and myself, (obviously after they had cleaned and fed the Birds of course). Dave and Tori did do this on two seperate occasions, Dave, Tori and Gail are very professional, have excellent customer service, they were setting up a Children’s Grotto at the Birds of Prey location when I visited. They can arrange private hawk hunting days, or walks, displays all seasons, hawk days including winter (but obviously depending on weather conditions for the Birds to fly) Or ad hoc arranged visits (like mine) to see the Birds of Prey in the Falconry location. Various different Birds of Prey, Peregrines, Eagles, Falcons, Owls etc Please contact them direct to arrange a visit or if you wish a Hawk Hunting Flying days pre arrange. They can accommodate other wishes as well with the Birds of Prey. I couldn’t fault "my ad hoc" two arranged visits, if you just want to look around the well kept and looked after birds of prey, don’t forget to give a donation or pay on entry. Obviously money goes towards the upkeep of the Birds. The Birds are well looked after and have to be cleaned out daily 7 days a week. So you will see them arriving in the morning if staying at the Hotel So if staying at the Castle or not, contact them prior to arrival in case you want to book a visit, extra hunting days etc Here are their contact details below and they have a website. 15/12/18. Victory Pub Christmas Jolly Boys outing at the Victoria Tunnel. A thoroughly enjoyable and educational history tour of this amazing engineering feat of the 1840s. 2 fantastic volunteer guides. Fascinating facts about the tunnel's original use and later use during World War 2 as an air raid shelter for up to 9,000 people. Highly recommended.

I booked the owl encounter pack as part of a Christmas present for my gifriend and her mam. We received a warm welcome from Mandy and Bruce (the dog) and were invited to look around the park before starting the owl encounter. We received high-quality information in a warm and friendly way about how the animals are housed, their diet and about each of their unique characteristics. It was brilliant to see these amazing animals up close and personal and to be able handle them; following Mandy's expert advice really put us at ease. We will definitely be visiting again!

We went as a family of 4 with our 2 boys (age 2 & 4). It was reptile day so we got to see and hold snakes, lizards, millipede, rat, baby owls and then the tarantula. The kids totally loved it and were buzzing. Me and Mum loved it too and managed to come out of our comfort zones by holding the tarantula and snake. The staff were so good with us they made it easy. I think we all enjoyed it as much as each other. I thoroughly recommend this for all ages. The staff really make the difference and make the experience good for kids & adults.
