Construction site next door

Reviewed By K5739CLmelaniet

construction crew building a new condo next door ruined our visit, they often work well past midnight drilling and pouring concrete, even during the hot part of the day. They have crews welding with giant lights, and it was rare we could hear the ocean over their yelling and banging. I think the new condo might even block the nice views when it is done. It was not the chill beach vacation I had hoped for, I feel bad because the owner of the house was understanding and responsive, and did refund us one night that we had to leave early due to noise, but I feel like the cost should be reduced significantly during construction. It was just a bit of a let down and I felt other people should be warned.

Scam artists

If I could give this place a zero, I would. It was my birthday weekend in Sayulita and the town was very full. I booked a room here and pre-paid for it. When we showed up, they actually modified my reservation for me (as if I did it) on booking.com for the following night (we were not even in town this night.) They were full and sold my room to someone else paying cash. They altered my reservation because they didn’t want to get in trouble with booking.com and told me “sorry you booked for the wrong night”. After I showed them my original booking and told them someone from their hotel modified it, they said sorry we are full and did not blink an eye and basically shunned me away. Compete scam artists! The worst thing is, this happened to us the previous night by another apartment owner in Sayulita. It basically ruined our night because everything by then was sold out, so it took us another two hours to find a place to stay. I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service and I have traveled a lot. Such bad business etiquette. This type of behavior should never happen by a reputable business. Save yourself trouble and book elsewhere. Dishonest people and very rude.

Charming Ocean Front Boutique Hotel

Hotel Basalto was lovely! I wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights here. Room 101 is hands down one of the best hotel rooms we have ever stayed in! The Ocean View from the comfortable King bed and spacious balcony are unbeatable. The soaker tub in the room with bubble bath and salts was so relaxing. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks in front of the property is mesmerizing. The hotel restaurant was tasty with a great included breakfast. To access a good safe spot to swim in the ocean you must take a short walk southwest of the hotel to the nearby beach Playa Careyeros. The sand is soft and the waves are excellent and very salty. Water was a little chilly in April. If ocean swimming isn’t your thing, there is a beautiful rooftop pool at the hotel with stellar views. This place is a Hidden Gem!

NOT A RESORT - IN NEED OF GUEST SERVICE

Reviewed By 880imvip

I have been here for the past 3 days of 7. And since day one I’ve encountered issue after issue. 1. The A/C didn’t work in one of the bedrooms. Called maintenance and they took over an hour for them to come. 2. Lady at pool bar “Blanca “ need a bit more of customer service. Doesn’t pay attention to guests needs. Seems distracted with her phone. Something I find very unprofessional. 3. The in room refrigerator has been reported for it to be fixed/revised. It’s been 2 days now and still no interest of them to come fix it. We haven’t been able to buy food or drinks to store. Pointless. The following problem just happened about a few minutes ago. 4. Called in for a bigger cooking pan since there is no coffee maker. Lady at reception mentioned there will be someone coming up to get me the pan. After 30 minutes I had to walk down to reception to remind them about the pan. To my surprised, the housekeeper, the reception person and the lady I charge if showing the rooms all charting. And laughing on their phones. This definitely made me extremely mad. Very careless and unprofessional. Reception lady then told the housekeeper to find an extra pan. And once i was given one. She gave me the one attached in this review. It was filthy dirty. As if it had been in the floor with fungus growing in it. This is just unacceptable. I had high expectations for this “ Resort” since it looked way better than the rest of the bungalows around the area. I know it’s not a 5 star property but attention to guests is extremely important. I hope not the manager, but the owners read this review for them to know what the issues are and for them to find people that really want to work. Because the staff they have is just unprofessional. Will NOT stay here again!!

Jardin del Mar

Jardin del Mar is a unique, beachfront Estate-turned-boutique hotel. From the moment you walk in through the ancient wooden doors, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into an old-world Mexican Hacienda. The fully-enclosed, half-acre property is full of colorful artifacts, artwork and antiques, all carefully hand-selected and brought here from all over Mexico. The name, “Garden of the Sea” is truly befitting, because everywhere you look you’ll find lush vines growing and colorful flowers blooming. Jardin del Mar can accommodate up to 20 people at a time in 7 separate “Casas.” Each Casa sleeps between 2 and 4 people and they’re all completely different in style and layout; the only thing they have in common is an ocean view. So, whether you want to sleep underneath a Palapa roof in a cozy bungalow or you prefer the “finer things,” we have something for everyone.

You enter the courtyard, the large wooden doors open, a traditional, tiled patio frames Banderas Bay. It’s a view you experience with all of your senses. The sounds of tropical birds, the aroma of garden flowers, the sun glistening on the bay. The ambiance wraps around you and immediately you are grateful. It’s enough to hang out all day by the pool or kayak on the bay, but you will want to explore the local cuisine, too. I suggest you go into the local markets and purchase fresh fruit and vegetables for your suite. Every morning we had a tostada with avocado, tomato, onion, and fresh lime – along with fresh orange juice and coffee. Every afternoon we had a fresh Margarita as we stretched out by the pool. Tomas and Eric are perfect hosts. They are excellent at arranging transportation, making restaurant recommendations, or making suggestions for excursions in the area. I came home with joy in my soul. I was rested and content…already making plans for my return to Jardin del Mar. it was a lovely stay - thank you for the experience.

Years ago (2013) we were here twice – once on Christmas day for a lovely day by their fabulous pool. The second time was for a disastrous new years eve dinner. We paid (if memory serves) about $200 each ($400 total) for the fancy affair which we expected to be next to the gorgeous pool. We were promised steak and lobster dinner. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and the hotel was forced to move the party indoors to a building on the far side of their property – with no kitchen. They then brought in home sized BBQ’s and tried to cook the dinner on them. Without proper lights they burned everyone’s dinner. As in charcoal briquettes for the steak and lobsters. Inedible. Meanwhile the rain caused the roof to collapse and water poured through – which the staff shored up with pipes while we wondered if the remaining roof was going to fall on our heads. And there was not enough wait staff so you had to wait endlessly for drinks. We ordered a bottle of wine three times before it finally showed up. And when we went to pay the bill there were drinks on it from another table as they had been using first names to keep track and “David” is not exactly uncommon. We wrote them an email with feedback about the evening and how they might improve upon it in the future. They thanked us and gave us a gift certificate for a free night stay at the hotel and a bottle of champagne. As it has been many years, we figured we were not likely to ever use the free night stay. But we would be happy to trade the nights stay (worth about $200) for a couple of day passes at the pool (worth $25) and the free bottle of wine. In the end, after much back and forth emailing with the hotel they agreed to honor the gift certificate. In the end we got the free day passes but no bottle of wine (we ended up paying for it). And while it might sound petty – the lack of “fairness” in all of this irks us a bit. Unlikely we will ever return.
