I used Winterlab for my recent ski trip to Japan. I am an experienced and hungry skier. I go to Japan often and speak Japanese but I had never been skiing in Japan. Winterlab made my first, of many to come, experience great. Anna was super-responsive, patient, and informative from the start, and throughout. Oli, my guide and instructor, was amazing. Day 1, got a sense of my skiing but appropriate to what I wanted to do, Days 2 and 3, we just had at it. Back country, in trees, powder and more. He was also a great companion for 3 days. I highly recommend and would/will repeat!

My 15 yo niece had lessons with ski instructor, Mereana, in January 2020. I had lessons with Mereana in Winter 2019 and February 2020. My niece is a beginner with about ten days' skiing experience from when she was 10 yo. I let my niece work alone with the ski instructor (Mereana) in the mornings and joined them after lunch. Mereana was very focussed and we could see my niece gaining confidence over the week. By the end of the week, my niece could ski all the green runs, including the Silver Dream at Hanazono. She could also ski from the top of the Hirafu gondola. On top of that, Mereana managed the whimsical mood of a teenager better than I could! As an intermediate level skier, my legs would get tired after a day of skiing. I was wasting energy with poor technique. I've been so impressed by Mereana's ability to break down the skills I need to learn. She watches me ski and she can point out to me, on video, what I need to improve next. It can be hard to change old habits. With Mereana, we've tried different ways to improve until we find what works. When I go skiing on my own, my legs don't feel tired any more. That makes skiing so much more enjoyable. For full day lessons, the ski instructor picked us up from our accommodation and drops us off at the end of the day.

Sam was an EXCELLENT teacher, the kids thoroughly enjoyed their time with him, and they progressed so quickly in such a short time! It was amazing how they were able to go down the reds after 3 days with him and only having had the experience of the kiddie school in Hanazone. The kids loved skiing between trees while learning the skills needed to go down the mountains. Sam made it look easy and he was always in such a great mood and super patient. We highly recommend him for families with kids, I'm sure he would have been fantastic teaching me as well. Thank you so much for assigning him to our family and we look forward to booking him and other Propeak instructors in the future. Definitely worth it!

We booked rising sun for 4 days of guided skiing out of Niseko. Dan took us on four awesome days of touring. He met us at our accommodations each morning, gave us beta each morning on where the good snow would be, a suggestion of where we should go, and options in case we were feeling something else. Dan was fun, brought us to some epic spots, always found the good snow, took some great pics, and most importantly was the ultimate snow safety professional and was diligent about risks in the backcountry and kept us safe. Rising Sun helped us organize some transportation and logistics, and took us to some sweet onsen and dinner spots. We were really impressed with our trip and would definitely book again

Whiteroom Tours

Reviewed By GiantBird - Melbourne, Australia

I cannot speak highly enough of Whiteroom ski tours. I did their Niseko Explorer (off-piste road trip) in January 2017 and the three best things about the tour were 1. Excellent Guiding, 2. Excellent Guiding 3. Excellent Guiding. Niseko Explorer was really a misnomer as fortunately we did not spend many days skiing at Niseko itself ( perhaps south east Hokkaido would be more accurate). I say fortunately as of all the areas we skied, myself and most of the others on our tour rated Niseko area the least desirable slopes. Maybe that is somewhat a reflection on how good some of the other areas were that they found for us to ski. We had Rohan the head Niseko guide and Ros the Japan operations manager as guides. The downside was that for too many days where we were accommodated at Niseko. The actual Full Note lodge accommodation was good, it was simply the location which is less than ideal. This was a 12 night road trip where we were skiing only a couple of days at Niseko, so there was no advantage from a skiing point of view in being based in Niseko. It would be practical to be based in any economical town south east of Sapporo a convenient driving distance to the many ski slopes on that area. Niseko lacks real Japanese culture, and is an expensive place to eat with limited Japanese culinary experience. I enjoyed the "Niseko" Explorer so much that I will repeat the tour, despite the fact that I did not like being based in Niseko. I just wish I could find someone else with the same quality of guiding for a south east Hokkaido road trip tour but based anywhere but Niseko village.
