The 10 Best Sights & Landmarks in Skiathos, Sporades

August 27, 2021 Sachiko Swiger

Tiny Skiathos is packed with pine forests, archaeological ruins, and—most importantly—beaches. Shed your inhibitions at the nudist Banana Beach or have a more modest sun session at Koukounaries, which is peppered with lively cafes. Sail around on a chartered catamaran, hike to the dramatic medieval ruins of Kastro and tap into your spiritual side at one of Skiathos many monasteries.

Whilst it is hard to get to Il Kastro is well worth the effort. Stunning views and interesting ruins and churches set on top of a cliff. Down below is a beach with a fantastic taverna with food that is excellent.

monastero di Panagia Evangelistria

Reviewed By PeteWLaw - Ludlow, United Kingdom

I visited the monastery on a very wet September day. The road to it, which terminates at the monastery was surfaced, but was of very poor quality in places. The attractive church is surrounded by other buildings including a library, chapel and museum. Highlights for me included the vast bread oven downstairs in the museum, the row of large glass vessels containing fruit liquors and the many friendly cats. The museum would be improved if there were descriptions in english - it contained many documents and photos sbout the Greek War of Independence and religious regalia. The view down to the sea from the carpark would have been magnificent on a sunny day.

This is a beautiful landmark and truly worth the climb, it was early evening when we visited so very few people about and the oasis of calm was worth it to reflect on lost loveones.
