Florence Court

Beautiful 18th-century home set on a sustainable estate and gardens. Surrounded by lush parkland and thick woodland with Benaughlin mountain rising in the background, Florence Court enjoys a majestic countryside setting in West Fermanagh. There is something for everyone to enjoy at this extensive and welcoming place. On a guided tour of the Georgian mansion you can hear stories about the Cole family and their staff, who lived here for over 250 years. Outdoors take a gentle walk or long cycle along 10 miles of trails in the adjoining forest park and see fascinating industrial heritage features, including the water-powered sawmill and blacksmith's forge. The gardens are home to the mother of all Irish yew trees, as well as the kitchen garden which is being restored to its 1930s character.

Beautiful grounds with plenty of walks and probably one of the best House tours I've had. Would definitely recommend. We are members but it's well worth the entrance fee.

This is such a superb day out and is very typical of the excellent National Trust properties in this area. The grounds are a delight to walk through at all times of the year and when appropriate is a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic.

Monea Castle is a bit surreal to visit. You can wander right in the middle of the ruined castle keep. You can see where staircases and chimneys used to be; distinguish where each floor used to sit; wander between what would have been separate rooms and admire the super thick walls and impressive stonework. It is well signposted and easy to find, making a visit a must-do.

Tully Castle

This castle, built in 1613, is best known for its beautiful garden, which dates back to the 16th century.

We visited by boat from Enniskillen - which is a great way to approach it - the castle is a short walk up from the jetty. There is a good information visitor centre nearby, with some interesting exhibits. Admission is free and there is a ranger on duty. A number of panels tell the history of the place. Tully Castle was built as a fortified house by planters in the 1600s and then destroyed in the 1641 rebellion, with a lot of bloodshed. It has been vacant ever since. Well worth the visit.
