Malaya

Just like most of the people, I did stumble across this shop almost accidentally. I wasn’t looking for anything particular, but I am glad that I discovered this quaint little shop, full of marvels. The shop is flitting with handicrafts collected from across the country. Each one is hand-picked, exquisite and notable. I found it a tad bit pricey, however taking into account the effort that would have gone into collecting these artifacts, it is worth the price. I purchased a terracotta bird caller, tried out a few times and was truly mesmerized with its efficiency in attracting birds. Unbelievable!!! I did try out the rainmaker, it was simple bamboo filled in with some kind of seed and each time you moved it, it would produce sounds as if it was raining. I do not recollect the name of the lady running this shop, however, what I do remember was she was extremely warm and affable. She explained to me about the various crafts and showed me what some of them did. There is a variety of crafts displayed ranging from handmade dolls, organic cotton scarves, jewelry, pottery, terracotta, wood, bamboo, cane, wrought iron, paper mâché, coconut products, ceramics, metal works, leather items, shell & stone things, hats, bags, toys, local art, paintings and much more. You would want to purchase each and everything available in the shop. The shop supports indigenous arts and crafts and local artists. So, do your part and when in Bandhavgarh do purchase a few things from there and support the artists.

To explore Indore's signature cuisine in its entirety, Sarafa Bazaar is perhaps an excellent place to start. A quaint jewelry marketplace at daytime which converts into a bustling street food court every night. Sarafa is the kind of place you'd love to go with friends or family to cherish veggie delights indigenous to Indore. There are plenty of delicious street food options on display. Still, noticeably the ones to explore are the bhutte ka kees, sabudana khichdi, khopra patties, ratalu, garadu, poha jalebi, dal bafla, egg benjo, hapus ice cream with shrikhand, malpua, rabri, jaleba, and kulfi. And while you're at it, make sure to stop by the most famous street food vendors in Indore like the Joshi Dahi Bada House, Vijay Chaat House, Nagori ki Shikanji, Rajhans ka Daal Bafla, and Kamal Coconut Crush. The late-night street food market is open daily until the wee hours of the morning and is considered entirely safe for visitors.
