Brittany (/ˈbrɪtəni/; French: Bretagne [bʁətaɲ] ( listen); Breton: Breizh, pronounced [bʁɛjs] or [bʁɛχ]; Gallo: Bertaèyn, pronounced [bəʁtaɛɲ]) is a cultural region in the northwest of France, covering the western part of what was known as Armorica during the period of Roman occupation. It became an independent kingdom and then a duchy before being united with the Kingdom of France in 1532 as a province governed as if it were a separate nation under the crown.

Basilique St-Sauveur

Reviewed By simonbR4136TT - Abingdon, United Kingdom

This church is a gem - with wonderful Romanesque features - the decorated west facade and the internal rounded arches. There are tombs of significance inside for those who know their medieval history and look out for the column capital with an image of a camel!

Cathedrale Saint-Corentin

This medieval Gothic cathedral is perhaps the city's most prominent architectural landmark.

Reviewed By Morvoren - Truro, United Kingdom

This cathedral is quite rightly a National Monument. Admission is free. The Gothic architecture is amazing outside and in. The interior is light and spacious and the ambiance is relaxed. It is worth doing a little research before your visit to get the most out of it, especially if you don't speak French.

Abbaye de Lehon

Reviewed By A7804PAdavidb - Rayong, Thailand

We decided to take a late afternoon walk along the towpath of the Rance River, heading downstream from Dinan. We were rewarded by discovering the Abbaye de Lehon, a medieval abbey that is open to the public. We wandered around its garden, noticing the monks' vegetable gardens, and climbed the stairs into the refectory at the rear of the abbey. Surprisingly we did not see any monks. Unfortunately there was a wedding taking place in the abbey itself, so we could not go inside the main building. If you visit the ancient town of Dinan you owe it to yourself to take this delightful walk and visit Abbaye de Lehon.

Eglise de Saint Ronan

Reviewed By MVPinBoynton

Locronan itself is a gorgeous medieval town. This small church is quite unusual looking with its two separate facades. I liked the gargoyle drainpipes on the exterior. The interior had some lovely chapels, gorgeous stained-glass and many attractive features. I loved the beautiful old cemetery behind the church
