Ema and Aris were great hosts and teachers for the one afternoon class(approx. 5 hours) I and my girlfriend took at their studio. It was inspiring to be learning from people who truly love what they do. The atmosphere is very relaxed and creative. We contacted them some weeks before taking our trip and they were very flexible (and patient) in preparing a class designed for our level of experience. In addition, Ema was great in firing and organizing the shipping of the pieces to our home after the class. Besides the class, they have incredibly well-crafted and beautifully designed pieces at their shop! Don´t miss it!

Maria Sanoudaki Ceramic - Art Studio

Currently open by appointment only. Please do not hesitate to contact with us. Maria Sanoudaki Ceramic│Art Studio is a local studio based in the traditional village of Old Chersonisos in the island of Crete. You will find me in a traditional stone dwelling that used to be the house of my great-grandparents. In my studio you can discover unique handmade ceramic dishes, pots, home decor and elegant ceramic jewelry. Trying to find the sources of my roots, my work is inspired by the folk and ancient art of Crete combined with my constant research on contemporary and abstract art. Each item in the store is unique and handmade. I use different throwing techniques to create wheel-formed ceramic work as well as pottery hand-building techniques; that’s why each item may be slightly different. You are welcome to visit my studio, feel the cretan hospitality and see my art, which is made with love and imagination.

Irida Minoan art workshop

For over 4,000 years, the Minoan civilization demonstrated its love for life and nature with classy paintings, on almost anything, from pots to residences and palaces. They even exported their artwork to the entire then known world. Until in 1650 B.C., the great volcanic explosion of Santorini, destroyed the first European civilization, namely the Minoan. In our workshop, you can still experience the ancient art of Minoan painting, from the hands of local Cretan artists, creating museum copies. You can find us in the beautiful, traditional village of Peza at Irida, only a few kilometers away from Knossos.

Chrissa Ceramics

Hi, I'm Chrissa, an architect and graphic designer who fell in love with clay. Every piece you see in my shop is handmade and designed by me in my studio in a small village in Crete. I love the ritual of turning mud into works of art, functional and accessible to people in their daily lives. I create forms with or without a pottery wheel, using my hands, and simple tools. The hand-building techniques I use help create unique items, each with its own character.
