We attended the 'Intro To Climbing' class which lasted 1.5 hours and cost £20. Harness and climbing shoes are provided as part of the cost. We were in a class of 8 which does seem quite big considering there was only one instructor. However, this wasn't an issue to my surprise. The instructor was able to interact with everyone on a one to one basis. We started with rock climbing and even had the opportunity to try the auto belay. The last part of the class we were being taught how to boulder. Upon completing the class you're then able to come back and use the bouldering area and auto belays without supervision. All you have to do when you come back is demonstrate you know how to use the equipment, simple! Once the class ended we were told we could stay until they closed, so we got an extra hour on top of that. It was a really enjoyable introduction class and I would highly recommend it.

Hurst karate club is based near Reading and offers self defence lessons to anyone who wants to combine moderate exercise with the art of the “empty hand” (which is what karate means in Japanese). We have separate kids’ and adults’ sessions every Monday and Wednesday evening. We welcome men or women, young or old, beginners or experienced karateka. Our members range in age from 6 to over 70 and we practice the hard/soft style of martial art called goju ryu karate – focussing on technique rather than strength. You can find more about our karate school and what to expect by looking round our website. Or just come along to any Monday or Wednesday session – no need to ask – and try us out for free.
