The 10 Best Outdoor Activities in Cordoba, Andalucia

May 18, 2022 Mollie Coke

Córdoba was once the premier city of the Western World, the greatest metropolis west of Constantinople, and the seat of Europe’s first university. Today, there’s a modern commercial center, but most travelers love strolling the town’s ancient cobblestone streets, peeking through gates for glimpses of lush flowers and beautiful tiled fountains.

Cordoba Ecuestre

Very relaxed atmosphere. The horses are magnificent and very high spirited. The seating was very up close and personal. I recommend buying the premium tickets to get early access to the horses and stables, where you can scratch the noses of these majestic animals...if you dare. The tiny glass of cheap boxed wine you received on entry was disgusting. It gave my husband a headache immediately. You are not allowed to take photos and videos during the show.

Caballerizas Reales de Cordoba

In 1570, King Philip II, who was a great lover of horses, set out on a scheme to create a pure thoroughbred Spanish horse. He ordered the Royal Stables to be built, where he bred the Spanish horse or Andalusian horse, which was of Arab origin. The main stable room itself, with its vaulted ceiling supported by sandstone pillars is divided into smaller separate areas, known as boxes

Our hotel bought us tickets in advance. For a few dollars more get the premium seats. They have the best location and are the most comfortable. With the premium tickets you can skip the line when everyone is waiting to get in for the show. You just go to the front of the line and present your tickets. The show last 1 hour and 15 minutes. It was mezmerizing! We loved every minute of it. The showmanship and routines were fantastic. When the horses started jumping-it was magical! Also go to the museum there- it was so interesting with all the antique horse carriages. The two night activities we loved in Cordoba- was the Mezquita/Cathedral night tour and this Horse Show at the Royal Stables.
