The Society of the Four Arts

The Society of the Four Arts is a nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1936 to meet the cultural needs of the growing resort community. The Four Arts campus is home to beautiful sculpture and botanical gardens, a library and children's library, all which are open to the public year-round. During the winter season, The Four Arts also presents notable speakers, concerts, films, educational programs, and art exhibitions to the public.

There are magical gardens, sculptures & a walking tour behind the library. We walked to the right, picked up a walking tour and wandered into the gardens. This non-profits mission is to promote art, literature, music and drama offering a calendar full of diverse concerts, films, exhibits, speakers, workshops & classes. I've tried to join and am on the waiting list. The Gioconda & Joseph King Library is a grand Mediterranean building with a mural depicting art, literature, music & drama painter by Albert Herter in 1939. The two bronze panthers guard the entrance to the library. The Botanical Garden is lush and tropical with lots of benches, sculptures, water features & plants to admire. The Moonlight, Chinese, Jungle, Palm & Madonna Gardens were impressive; a perfect location for a wedding or outdoor event. We walked through beautiful pergolas, past the two Peacock Monuments on our way into the Pannill Pavillion filled with fountains, lush foliage and the four seasons sculptures by Philip Haas. He painted four large fiberglass head sculptures to represent each season, inspired by Mannerist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. I sat on a bench between life size sculptures of Roosevelt & Churchill in Lawrence Holofcener's The Allies in bronze & wood.

It is a box of surprises, every time I visit THE BOX GALLERY I am amazed by Rolando Chang Barrero's creativity owner and curator; the kind of art/artists and topics he brings to the public because he is always right on what is going on in the world, inviting us to actually think on the impact that our words and actions have in our community. Expect to be amazed

Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

When it was completed in 1902, the New York Herald proclaimed that Whitehall, Henry Flagler's Gilded Age estate in Palm Beach, was "more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world." Today, Whitehall is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public as the Flagler Museum, featuring changing exhibitions and special programs. The 75-room mansion contains many of the original furnishings as well as an art collection. Adjacent to Whitehall, the Flagler Kenan Pavilion houses Henry Flagler's private Railcar No. 91 as well as a seasonal restaurant, the Cafe des Beaux-Arts, which offers a Gilded Age-themed tea service. The Museum Store offers for sale a wonderful collection of books, gifts and memorabilia with a focus on Florida history. Open Tuesday through Sunday.

Well worth a visit despite the fact that the entrance is currently being renovated. This home reminds me of American royalty, if we had such a thing. The admission price includes a self-guided tour you can listen to and also includes Flagler's personal train car. Impressive, especially the dishes used, the enormity of the home, and the numerous decorated/named bedrooms.
