Hotel-Dieu de Lons-le-Saunier

This beautiful building whose architecture and gates are much-admired was built from 1735 to 1744, after the plans of the architect J.P. Galzot. The latter who was from Besancon was naturally inspired by Saint-Jacques Hospital to draw the plans for «l’Hotel-Dieu» of Lons-le-Saunier.

Took the tour of the museum, here in this small and charming town. The building is well preserved, stunning, painted roof tiles, a lovely courtyard and replicas of the hospice inside the museum. Very interesting how people were cared for, after a war, the sleeping areas, medical treatment and kitchen can all be seen in the museum.

I visited museum with my colleagues. We had English speaking guide as part of private tour. She provided interesting facts from history of Peugeot family. They aren’t only cars exhibited there but other things which were made by Peugeot family. Most of the cars are in working condition and perfectly restored. You can buy souvenirs at shop there. There is enough parking outside.

Musee Gustave Courbet

The Departmental Courbet museum presents the life and work of Gustave Courbet, realistic painter from Ornans, through a rich permanent exhibition of over 70 works. The permanent collection evokes Ornans to Paris, his life, the aesthetic revolution he led, artistic circles he frequented, and political and social commitments. The museum organizes two temporary exhibitions each year and offers many activities: concerts, storytelling, shows, conferences, etc., detailed in our "cultural programming" quarterly.

Reviewed By 133johno - Washington DC, United States

This museum shows one of the most comprehensive collections of Courbet’s works, including drawings and engravings. Situated on the Loue, located in the heart of Ornans where Courbet was born, raised and lived off and on for a good part of his life, the museum gives the visitor a solid grounding in his work. The modern installation is airy and bright. The wall plaques provide context and for those who read French and can decipher Courbet’s spidery handwriting, a generous sampling of his letters presents a good sense of how important the natural world of Ornans was as an inspiration. Ornans may be a little off the beaten path but the trip is well worth the time. Plus the twisting road down into the narrow valley of the Loue in which Ornans sits is an experience in itself.

We were 6 adults, 3 children of 3 years old and a baby. We took a full pass to all activities in the parc. Great combination of activities for both adults and children. There’s also a lot of space in all areas (we had a rather big stroller) and it’s very cool inside so good for hot summer days. Personell was really very friendly! The children also enjoyed it: the story of winery told in a playful way, all parts of the museum very interactive and attractive for children as well. Some parts are like an attraction parc, and we did not even have to pay for the children. The little train brings you to the garden, where there is also room for children to participate in the activities. We had a very pleasant day and were all very tired at the end of the day (you spend a whole day there). Food at noon was very good and not expensive at all. Also good facilities for children!
