King Alfred's Statue

Reviewed By 236traceya - Havant, United Kingdom

Passing through Pewsey on my way to Marlborough i saw this amazing Statue of the late, Great King Alfred and just had to stop to get a closer look, plus some photographs. The roads get extremely busy making it quite dangerous to get to him, but it was worth it to find out that this statue was erected in 1913 making it much older than the one in Winchester, a great find but such a shame it wasn't put somewhere much more worthy of him for more people to enjoy, such as by the river & seating area, as it would be safer & much quieter to view.

Cherhill White Horse and Monument

Reviewed By 536karlm

Visited yesterday. Great little walk of around an hour (reasonable footwear required, bottle of water optional). Views from the top are amazing (we were fortunate to have a good clear day) and the size of the monument is really quite impressive. You can do a small loop circuit to avoid going up and down the same way. Also saw a set of 4 ( yes, four) hawks all hovering in the air simultaneously hunting for prey! A pretty rare sight in itself.
