El Gaucho Monumento

Reviewed By WorldTravelers34 - Chicago, United States

We observed this beautiful statue when waking around Montevideo. This is an excellent sculpture of an equestrian figure of a gaucho soldier carrying a spear in his right hand. The monument, cast in bronze, sits on a granite base and was erected in 1927.

La Carreta

This is a beautiful sculpture in a very nice park. We stopped here on our bus tour of the city. There was also a nice selection of vendors selling "tourist" goods. Nice photo stop.

Set in the beautiful Park, this sculpture is simply wonderful with very intricate work. It captures the toils and difficulties of early settlers perfectly. A lovely sculpture to sit and marvel at, and when you finish there are vendors selling local crafts nearby...

Monumento a Carlos Gardel,

Reviewed By 52fernandop - Montevideo, Uruguay

This small monument, sits just in the street, in downtown Montevideo. The origin of this singer was (and still is for some) dubious, as he was born in Tacuarembó (Small town in Uruguay), but also has french paper, due to his mother origin. He was the one who changed the way Tango was sung decades ago, is still present in several radio programs as of today. To add to the legend, he dies in a plane crash in 1925 near Medellín Colombia, when he was still very young. Besides the monument, you will also see small grid with hundreds of padlocks, that are left there by visitors and also locals, justo make their visit inmortal!
