A memorial to the Soviet soldiers from Moldavia who lost their lives in the Afghanistan War, a war that lasted 9 1/2 years. This war is also referred to as the Soviet Union's Vietnam War or the Silent Bear. The similarities between the Soviet Afghan War and America's Vietnam War are almost identical. Both Soviet Union (9 1/2 years) and the USA (8 years) lost wars that they believed they would win in only a few months; but were severely defeated. Both the Soviet Union and USA retreated and evacuated Afghanistan and Vietnam. Both wars were political. This is considered one of the leading causes of the fall of the Soviet Union.

For those interested in Jewish history (and historical Kishinev had a major Jewish community), this memorial to the ghetto during WWII is a very important place to visit.

This monument is within walking distance from the city centre. It is dedicated to Soviet army which was defending the country against Nazi invasion in WWII. The tank is very well preserved and is worth a visit.

This statue is on the opposite side of Cathedral park...if you are looking for it..aits located at the top of the street opposite the park almost in the middle of the street. The statues display a boy waiting for a girl with flowers. It seems to attract lots of people who want to take a photo with it. I will recommend you visit if you are close by Cathedral park.
