Parque Tematico Historias de Piedra

The park has interesting sculptures of various figures carved out of the trees and rocks. I took a taxi across Yopal and up a steep hill to get there. I paid a little fee to get in, like 5,000 or 15,000 Colombia pesos (COP) (less than $5 USD). The park is a very short hike up and down a steep hillside. The path makes a circle around and returns to the starting point. Tourists should wear sturdy shoes like hiking shoes. The views from this point are fabulous! One can see all of Yopal and much of the plains from here. I took a taxi to this vista from Yopal, about 20 minutes away. The driver remained and waited while I looked around for 20 minutes and then took me back to my origin. That cost 50,000 COP ($15 USD) for 2 hours.

Puente de Boyaca

Reviewed By Halreader - Orlando, United States

A history major like me had a wonderful time at this place, for it is here, during the 19th century, that the liberation from Spain began for what would be the nations of Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and namely, Colombia. My parents were Colombian, and I have lived in Bogota for a few years in my youth, so This battle is of significant importance when learning about the country, and its liberator, Simon Bolivar. The battlefield covers a wide expanse of hill country with statues and monuments, but there is a building near the bridge called "El Ciclorama," a round structure which has the largest mural in South America, and when explained by the local guide, adds color to the rich history of the event held here and, most importantly, the people of Colombia. A great place to visit.

Cristo Rey

This was quite an experience. The drive up to Cristo Rey was not that far from downtown. When we arrived to the top, it was about 20 degrees cooler and very windy. We were able to have amazing photos taken with our family, buy little trinkets, have hot chocolate with cheese, eat arepas, and have a few other treats! I have pictures with Cristo Rey but don’t want to post for privacy reasons
