The 10 best Lodges in Italian Riviera, Italy

April 27, 2023 Viva Honore

Liguria, or the Italian Riviera, boasts a bounty of beaches and resort towns, such as tiny but tony Portofino and stylish Rapallo. Hiking trails lead from Portofino to the villages of Cinque Terre. The Riviera of the Setting Sun runs north from Genoa to the French border. Connected by an extensive rail network, most towns make easy daytrips from one another. Genoa is the region's principal city and is home to attractions from its famous Cathedral and the Palazzo Reale to an excellent aquarium.

So welcoming!

I can’t say enough great things about this place. I felt welcome from the very second as one of the staff met me at the end of the pedestrian tunnel to help with my bags up the steep hill to the hotel (you’ll get used to it). Loris the concierge was so warm and bubbly it was like making an instant friend. I stayed in the charming Shabby Chic room, though I’d argue it was more chic than shabby! Super clean and spacious room/en suite bathroom. Would definitely stay here again!

Clean, New, Friendly, Well located

Reviewed By ioodd

+ Clean and pleasant. + New - the rooms are recently redecorated. The style is minimalistic and tasteful. + Friendly - The owner is always on-site and ready to help in any way he can. + Very well located to explore Genova on foot + Quiet. +- Parking - Hotel has no parking, The closest street parking that I was able to find was 400 m away. +- Breakfast - we highly enjoyed the breakfast and its location. But it is a matter of personal preferences and expectations as some other reviews show. - Access - As far as I can tell, it is not possible to access the hotel by car or if you are a wheelchair user. I leave it to the owner to correct me if I am wrong. This is a boutique hotel. Definitely not a 1* hotel as TA suggests. We needed a hotel in Genova to stay for 1 night. This ended up to be a perfect choice. I can also recommend it for longer stays, especially if you plan to go out and explore Genova. We will return here when we need to stay in Genova next time.

A home from home, our third visit here in two years. We now look forward to seeing the super friendly owners as much as the Lodge and surroundings. BBQ Lodge is a recently renovated villa perfect for up to 10 people; owners who go out of their way to look after you; luscious breakfasts laid out on the terrace; amazing views; green surroundings; immediate access to the Portofino National Park with plenty of short and long walks to explore; 15 mins walk to the sea and Camogli; a scooter ride to Portofino; canoeing to Punta Chiappa....

I read the bad reviews, fortunately after I came home. This place was GREAT!

Reviewed By Tamaqua

One of the complaints I read was how getting a bus from here is difficult?!? Really??? This is the properties fault. It took me about a minute of looking to realize this place is a bit remote, yet close enough to Monterosso and Vernazza, if you have your own vehicle. If you do not, I agree this may not be the place to stay but don't blame the property if you didn't do your own research! My accommodations were excellent, the view excellent, owner amazing, kind and considerate. All for a more than reasonable price. If my travels bring me close I will definitely return here.

Albergo Piccolo Paradiso

The Hotel Piccolo Paradiso is a comfortable location in Vallecrosia, charming town of Riviera Ligure, a very paradise for holiday in Italy in alls seasons.

Clean and comfortable accomodations, but difficult to get to and no English speakers.

Reviewed By GregW2701

The room was clean and comfortable and afforded easy and immediate access for walking along the beachside restaurants and clubs after dark. We felt safe all the time. For dinner we simply had a pizza from hotel restaurant, in our room, and then walked paved sidewalks along the beach after dark. We arrived about 1700. The traffic getting from the motorway was slow, congested, aggressive and through a very rough neighborhood. It was just plain scary. That is why I would not return to this otherwise desirable hotel. Additionally, at no time that we were there did any of the hotel or bar staff speak any English, nor was there anyone to help get luggage up the stairs in this hotel that did not have an elevator.

Great dedign, a bit loud

Reviewed By Nina_Black

I loved the interior, very stylish design of the room with its mix of modern elements and antique bits if furniture. Besides, the room was very large with a dining table area, tv & couch, desk and plenty of free space. it was great to have a kitchen to use which was equipped with stove, fridge, microwave. Generally, the entire appartment was very clean and well-kept. The location was great with 25min walk time to either of the 2 train stations. Communication with the owner via WhatsApp was smooth. The owner/administrator mixed me up with other guests in all text messages (with only 5 rooms to manage) and due to the reception’s working hours I never met him. According to the information sheet the bed linen should have been changed every 3 days and somebody has been in my room but the linen was not changed. The appartment is lovely but one has to be aware that you can always hear when somebody is coming in or going to the wc in the night as doors are old-style doors. They rattle and are not soundproof at all. The rooms’ curtains do not block out street light. The entrance to the house is not easy to find - I helped other guests to find the gate on the upper street level which is special feature of Genoa’s houses.

Fantastic! Stefano and his wife were great hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and he gave us lots of useful information about the area and restautants etc. The rooms were very modern, big and clean and the facilities were excellent. We also had a brilliant breakfast with lots of fresh local produce. Very peaceful location within easy access to the town centre and the train for Cinque Terre. Steep access but worth it when you arrive.
