The Springs Resort & Golf Club

Premium hotel suites, lodges, spa, restaurant and gym

Our visit was to the Springs resort was a rather mixed experience. We booked to stay because we were attending a family event a few miles away and the choice of location was a good one. Lovely rural surroundings and beautiful views over the golf course and beyond. We made our initial reservation on booking.com for what was described as a 'double room with patio'. On the day before our visit we messaged the Springs resort again and for the first time they described the room as a 'lodge'. We rang up to query and were told that the room we had booked was in fact a lodge located outside the main building. This wasn't what we wanted so we changed to a 'junior suite' in the main building. The resort were aware of the misleading description on booking.com, but hadn't resolved it. Our junior suite was modern, nicely decorated, well equipped and with a very good shower, but definitely wasn't a suite. A moderately sized double room with a shower and one chair isn't a suite! Meals are available in the golf clubhouse a few minutes walk away and were of a good standard. The staff in the hotel reception were friendly and helpful and there was good parking just outside the building (although we suspect we were the only guests staying overnight). The only facilities available in the main building are the spa and gym, so it isn't really an hotel, more rooms with leisure facilities and that's fine if that's what you want. We paid £229 for the night for our room and this is definitely very over priced unless you're going to make extensive use of the leisure facilities.

Was average, but not brilliant

We have just had a two night stay fri and sat night. 3&4 June. We were greeted by jack on reception who was very friendly and accommodating We were in room 217 which we think was the noisiest room in the hotel! The room was lovely, clean and warm. Room 217 is on the front of the hotel, overlooking the Main Street, and as such very noisy. We heard every one walking by, going home, we were also directly above the live music which did stop at 11pm ish. We went out for the day on Saturday, and when we returned we hadn’t had any room service. The towels hadn’t been changed, the tea and coffee hadn’t been replenished, we had to go ourselves to reception to get replacements! The breakfast was great, Manuel from Spain was hilarious, and made it a funny experience.

Weekend Walking Break

Booked the one night winter deal of cream tea, dinner & breakfast upon requesting the dates David advised there was a tribute band playing that evening so they wouldn’t be able to accommodate the dinner part of the deal but offered us reduced price tickets to attend the event which we were pleased to accept. On checking in with Graham he was extremely helpful suggesting walks (which was the original reason for booking). The hotel is directly on the Thames Path and walks in both directions are beautiful. On our return from our first walk we enjoyed our cream tea and checked into our room, we weren’t disappointed! We’d upgraded to one of the new river view rooms which was beautiful. The evening band, Hope & Glory were amazing and a really made for a memorable evening. The next morning, breakfast was fresh and delicious with plenty of choice and good quality ingredients. The hotel were very accommodating with us arriving early to walk and leaving late for the same reason, there was no problem with us leaving our car. The staff at this hotel were all extremely helpful and informative. Hope & Glory were brilliant, we’d love to see them play again! Thank you to you all for such an enjoyable night away!

This is a lovely place to spend a night or 2, the village of Benson is very quaint and this old coaching inn is just off the road that passes through the village. Retaining its old world charm, the pub and restaurant areas have lively traditional decor with a quality feel. We stayed overnight in room 6, with some quirky decor and a beautiful roll top bath in the room. I had a huge bubble bath and then a very comfy night sleep in the super king size bed! Breakfast was included in the price, and was very nice. I would highly recommend this place and as we have family in the area we’ll be back!

The Coachmakers Arms is a cosy pub where a warm welcome awaits everyone. The three lovely en-suite rooms are accessed via a separate entrance and situated over two floors. Rooms 1 & 2 can both be configured as a double or twin room and each has an additional single bed to accommodate three people. Room 3 is a double room perfect for a couple or single occupancy. Housed in one of Wallingford's oldest buildings, the Coachmakers Arms is a friendly pub close to the heart of the town and just 300 metres from the River Thames. We offer a small but delicious menu currently being served from the garden grill on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Please ask for more details regarding meals as I am more than happy to provide some options by arrangement during the week. Breakfast is hearty and freshly cooked to order. You can select a breakfast to suit your taste from the various components of a full English, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, all served with a pot of tea or fresh coffee and orange juice, followed by toast and preserves if you have any room! I look forward to welcoming you to Wallingford and hope you enjoy your stay. Lynne

Delightful luxurious experience with amazing hospitality

My 3 children and I stayed in this superb house following me staying there whilst on a business trip around 3 years ago. I knew then that my children would love staying there are we were certainly not disappointed! Shirley was absolutely brilliant with her pre-stay communications - courteous, flexible and clear with the arrangements. On arrival my children and I felt very welcome and it was so wonderful to experience the amazing house once again. The terraces adjoined to the 2 rooms we stayed in (the Gold Room and the Moroccan Room) were spacious and calming with great views over the extensive, beautifully maintained gardens. The baths in both rooms were the height of luxury - particularly grand in the Gold Room! We enjoyed a tranquil, undisturbed night there and slept brilliantly. Waking up to the smell of bacon cooking was a delight and the fantastic breakfast Shirley made and 'proper' coffee from the cafetière lent itself to delightful conversation before we made our way home. A truly wonderful high to end our family summer holiday on! Thank you Shirley! We recommend this amazing travel experience unreservedly to anybody looking to treat themselves to luxurious calm in Oxfordshire! Enjoy!

Wonderful host and a cook who cares

Reviewed By deer96

We called in the early afternoon to request an evening meal and received a prompt return call from the proprietor saying that they could accommodate my request for a vegetarian meal. We arrived earlier than expected with another request - a place where we could work for a while on our laptops. Alexis very graciously said we could work in the restaurant/bar area. When dinner arrived it was a wonderful vegetarian meal, clearly prepared by a chef who really cared about providing a great meal. The proprietors were delightful to chat with and we felt very much at home

Beautiful room, with mezzanine bedroom. we had a fridge and kettle. We booked Band B which was a cold Continental breakfast. The barn was beautiful, but a kitchen area would have been ideal as there was no sink or water source downstairs.
