Relaxing, Enjoyable Stay

I stayed in a deluxe bungalow for 1 week and was very comfortable. The pool, yoga studio, restaurant and beach were all just steps away which made for a great vacation with a group of friends. We barely left the property because they had everything we needed there. When we did leave we appreciated the nearby bike rentals, wood fired pizza and souvenir shop across the street. Troncones was very quiet and felt safe which is important since there are not locks on the rooms. We had some interactions with critters as expected since the rooms are open to the outside. Breakfast was our favorite meal of the day, chilequiles and breakfast burrito were a huge hit but all of the food and drinks that we ordered tasted great. Fresh fruit smoothies by the pool every afternoon was one of my favorite parts of the day. We had 4 different yoga teachers during the week we were there which we felt was a good alternative to a traditional yoga retreat were you typically are committing to a single yoga teacher. We appreciated the different teaching styles and types of yoga that we were exposed to. I would absolutely recommend Present Moment to friends and return myself as soon as I am able. We regretted not bringing more pesos since the ATM in town only worked one time we tried it.

The interior design and the landscaping were exquisite and emaculate. Communication prior to, during and after our stay was prompt and ever so helpful. Only steps to the beach. Completely loved our stay here. Date of stay: January 2022

No Room Upon Arrival

I had made a reservation 4 months prior to our arrival for 4 nights beginning January 8. Upon our arrival around noon, the gal at the front desk told us to come back about 2. We came back about 2 and she said the room was still not ready. About an hour after that, Roberto showed up and informed us that the folks in our room were going to stay one more day. He then tried to convince us to take a crappy room in some other property near by for one day and move back in to his property the next day. We declined and eventually checked into another property down the street after searching around for a couple hours. What a disappointment...the place down the street was great though!

Majahua Palms

Troncones beachfront hotel and private bungalows. 3 miles of remote beach but only 45 minutes to airport. Large pool, excellent restaurant, full service bar, friendly staff. English spoken

We will be back!

Reviewed By 832wendellt

We had a wonderful 2 week stay at Majahua Palms Resort near Troncones. The resort has everything you need, a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and a full service bar. Nice selection of choices at the restaurant and all of it was great! We even went fishing one day and they fixed our fish 3 ways, ceviche, fish and chips, and 'steaks' for fish tacos. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they speak enough English to get by if you can't speak Spanish. Benito was a very attentive host, and arranged whatever we wanted. Massages, fishing, bird watching, boogie boards, taxis, COVID tests with the doctor coming to the resort. Everything is reasonable, we were surprised how low our food bill was when we checked out. Pick up some cash before you leave ZIH, there is one cash machine in Troncones and they charge 2% (based upon max withdrawal). Most if not all places that do accept VISA will add 5%. But most places will only accept cash. Pesos, not dollars. In Troncones you can find several small markets and a few tourist stores, or swim / beach necessities. There are a few very small markets in La Majahua. We ate the majority of our meals at the resort, but did venture out and every restaurant we went to was good. Our favorites: La Dolcina, Robertos (watch the turtle babies race to the sea - ask Benito when this happens), La Mexicana (all of these in Troncones), Antonio's, Dona Martha in La Majahua. The fresh seafood was amazing, oysters just harvested, campanchana, ceviche, shrimp every possible way. Getting around? Taxi between Majahua Palms and Troncones is 200 pesos (~$10). You can walk down the beach to the La Majahua restaurants, and if you see the bus come by it's 20 pesos per person to get from there to Troncones. Bring your headlamp or cell phone for the walk back after dinner! We did walk to Troncones a few times. Too far! Especially when it's really hot, or you are walking on soft sand. It's around the next point or group of rocks, or the next one? Walking the road is a bit better because it is solid but still hot and far. One day we hiked the trail to Troncones and return. Walk up the driveway from the resort, turn right at the T, and then left at the next T (right would take you into La Majahua). You will see the trail start with a steep cut to the right of that gravel road, with a sign Troncones Trails. Not too well marked, some places had the signs, or some paint on the ground. Eventually you drop down into Troncones. Along the way you can take a sharp left and go up over a higher rocky section, or you can stay straight and take the low road. We went by the low road and returned over the hill. A few good views, some interesting wildlife (coatimundi, cows, birds), interesting plants. A pretty decent hike in all and good choice for getting to Troncones to order a beer (35 pesos), margarita (60 pesos), some campanchana, governors tacos, or whatever you want as you sit at a beachfront restaurant and enjoy the breeze and waves. We stayed in the Bungalows. Nice sized rooms with a King and Queen bed, bathroom with shower, porch with bench, chairs, hammock. The top of the wall is open so the air flows through, and the front and side window shutters open up for open-air living. It was very comfortable, a few nights a bit warm but the ceiling fans do the job. We were in a beach front Bungalow, the waves/surf crashes and it's pretty noisy. We enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the crash! Sometimes I think the ground shakes. Walking behind the Bungalow you can tell it's definitely quieter, so if you want a quiet night pick B4-B6. B7 and B8 are more private off to the side, B8 is for a family with 4 double beds (one bathroom still). Great pool, lounges and a palapa on the beach. Rocky beachfront but you can still go in the surf, or walk 5 minutes up the beach and boogie board past the end of the rocks. No snorkeling right there as the surf is too strong. But you will see the locals upside down in the surf harvesting oysters. Definitely recommend staying here if you want to get away, relax, stay near a village and small town.
