L'Agnata di De Andre

Situated at the foot of Limbara hills, in the heart of the lush Gallura and only a short distance from Tempio Pausania, you will find L'Agnata De Andre, a magical, comfortable refuge where tranquillity embraces you. Hotel L'Agnata is truly an inviting masterpiece surrounded by the green and gentle rolling hillside of this pure and natural and scape of the Gallurese country. The house, originally a Manor with a characteristic sheepfold, became in the mid 70's the residence of the famous Italian singer-songwriter De Andre, who wrote therein numerous poems and songs inspired by the charm of this place and its people. The Hotel is divided into two distinguished architectural structures. The new, comprised with eight rooms all with a view to the swimming pool (terrace and patio) and a cozy Library with its own fireplace. The antique structure in its real sense a manor house, with a ground floor restaurant with terrace and a view to the garden, a library, a dining, and on the first floor two rooms. The ten double rooms of L 'Agnata are all different from one another. Each room is distinguished in design by representing the natural landscape and tones of the island. The Style of the rooms is described as "Arte Povera "a style of modern revolutionary art which combines elegance, comfort& simplicity.

Lovely lodging, friendly service, great cycling

Reviewed By roadcyclists

Came here based on Trip Advisor reviews, and our own map showing potentially good (road) cycling in the area, and were amply rewarded. Traveling by car we had a little difficulty finding our way (our car GPS could not find the final 6km access road but our iPhone did). It is probably advisable to get further directions by calling if you are arriving at night! The last 6 km are on a remote winding road that is not lit up. This is what adds to the hotel’s appeal. It is remote and quiet and deep in the heart of northern Sardinia! The room we picked looked out over the pool and was extremely quiet. Also clean and furnished nicely. The grounds are well kept and there is plenty of space to relax, stroll, sit and read, swim or sunbathe. The personnel at reception and in the dining areas were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We had a few special requests (e.g. changing our clothes in the ground floor guest bathroom in order to take our first ride before our room was ready, leaving our bikes in a back alley behind the annex rooms) that were met without hesitation. We were there for cycling so we rode up the 6 km access road the first day and then rode south and west on SS 392. The next day we drove with our bikes in the car and parked at Luras, NE of Tempio Pausania and did a large 56 km loop ride descending practically down to Olbia then back up. Both beautiful rides with tremendous views. We enjoyed the pre dinner aperitif nightly (and the music that was played while doing so) and the dinners were delicious and filling. Some reviewers seem dissatisfied with the meal plan. These must be people who are traveling without the receptiveness one must have to the food of another region as well as the pace of meals. There is nothing that says that food in Sardinia is going to be like the food you eat in the region you come from. In fact Sardinia has wonderful culinary traditions we’ve seen from past visits we have made there. Accept it for what it is, ask questions about ingredients and decline what you can’t eat if necessary. The local sourcing of food (dairy and meat especially) means that I (the chef in the family) was unable to exactly re-create the fabulously tasty Zuppa Gallurese (a sort of cheese strata) when I returned home because there is no cheese that would replicate what was used. American stores do import some Italian cheeses but not these ones! Overall we enjoyed the meals immensely and breakfast was pleasantly available outside at the time of year we were there (early September) Hope someday we can come back.

Calycanto

A wondeful surprise in Gallura

Reviewed By Christopher T

We were not sure what to expect from Tempio when we decided to stay for four nights. We really just wanted a location that was close to multiple beaches and activities, as well as close to the airport for our early flight home. If the weather was bad, we didn't want to be stuck somewhere far from activities. Well, Tempio and Calycanto far-exceeded our expectations. They created memories of a lifetime. Tempio P. is a wonderful little town built from local blocks of granite. We enjoyed passeggiate every evening with a really good mix of locals and a few tourists thrown in. When you walk the streets at night, the stone sparkles in the streetlight, there is music, there are children playing. Tempio is within easy driving distances to gorgeous beaches. Isola Rossa, Costa Paradiso, Copa Testa, and even La Maddalena. It is also a great place to explore the other small towns of Gallura, the cork trees, wineries, nuraghe, and the indicative rock formations of the area. Hiking trails everywhere. Calycanto is easy to find on Via Valentino a half-block away from the town center. There is no dedicated parking, but parking spots were plentiful in the street and we never had to pay. Our room was very large, had it's own bathroom, was incredibly clean, and tastefully decorated. There are only a few rooms, so it was quiet. Great air conditioner if you get hot at night like we do. But the best part of Calycanto are Giovanna and her mother, two of the loveliest people you will ever meet. They answered all of our questions and even some that we hadn't thought to ask. They helped us with reservations. They told us which beach to visit that day based on the wind and weather, and where to eat while we were there. Our visit was filled with small but significant touches that showed they were thinking about our comfort and what we would like. And Oh! the breakfast! Beautifully setup and waiting for you each morning will be a breakfast built to your liking. With a bakery across the street and a market just around the corner, everything is fresh and local. What a great way to start every day! Thank you Giovanna for being a highlight of our trip.

New Petit Hotel

Hotel ***

Good overall, but let down by one employee

Reviewed By Swaf08

One would have thought, in the presence of Covid 19, staff would bend backwards to please everyone. Not in New Petit Hotel, it appears. Our group of 24 was turfed out of our room at 11am (our flight scheduled at 7pm). Fair enough, you might say. Except the hotel provides 6 chairs in the lobby and terrible weather throughout the day, one can only drink so many coffees in the cafes. This particular ( female) receptionist took upon herself to show us who is the boss. I was shouted at for staying 40 min longer in my room, a group of people sat in the (unused at the time) restaurant, where we left our luggage, and a single female was working on the computer. They were all screamed at and thrown out. All, because nobody asked her for the permission- her words, as I confronted her. Her behaviour was indefensible. During my extensive travels I don’t remember encountering such a unpleasant individual.

B&B Piazza di L'Ara

Buona partenza ma migliorabile

Reviewed By ArualLauri
