This is the second timeI stayed in this hotel. The hotel is great. Check in was good and on time. The room was very nice with a wonderful view of the city and a beautiful sunset view. The food at the exchange restaurant was really very good in terms of taste and value truly amazing. Stayed in the hotel for 4 days and 3 nights and ordered in room dining for dinner twice and dine at the Exchange restaurant for dinner once and lunch when we check out. I am impressed on how well the hotel is maintained after 2 years of lockdown. Special thanks for Mr. Tom at the Exchange restaurant for his great service for us during our time there and Mr Ravi at the check in counter for being nice and helpful. The only improvement I think that the hotel need is the other hotel staff need to smile and greet the people in the hotel. We past by hotel staff be it housekeeping or front desk staff and they never greet or smile at us which is not appropriate given the fact that this is a Novotel hotel and I have stayed in so many Accor hotel in which never had we encountered this. Overall it was a pleasant stay. Exceed our expectations. Will definitely return.

We booked a "Presidential Suite" for two nights as the hotel we normally use in Taiping was unavailable. We walked out of the hotel within 2 hours. We arrived after check in time to be told that there would be a half hour wait to make our room ready. Once we gained access the immediate impression was of a tired and uncared for suite with little care being taken. - There was no hot water in any room of the suite. An hour after reporting this the poor maintenance man had been unable to resolve this. - There was however water leaking across the master bathroom floor. - 4 lights had blown bulbs around the suite. Another was missing the bulb entirely. - Why would there be ash trays and the strong smell of smoke in a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor? - The 2nd bedroom had no wardrobe, although there was a coatstand in the living area. - Gaffa tape had been used to cover the holes were a door had been rehung. It had also been used liberally in other "repairs" around the hotel. - 2 out of 3 AC units did not function properly, they were stuck on max fan and minimum temperature. One of the remotes did not function at all. - Several walls were marked, possibly from the previous application of decorations that had been applied but not properly cleaned afterward. I spoke to the manager and was offered "the other presidential suite". This was in a similar condition, the manager admitted that it had not been occupied in a long time. We decided to walk away and end a much needed family break early. The bellhop stood out as the most efficient and effective member of staff. The reception staff appeared utterly uninterested, on several occasions the bellhop was seen to intervene to get them to serve waiting guests. I fully appreciate the struggle that the MCO has presented to hotels however this hotel has apparently stopped trying. Simple issues like checking the lights and water supply (or flood) in a room should be part of preparing the room, especially if it is not ready on time. Granted there are other rooms available at much lower costs, however the "Presidential Suites" are anything but Presidential. The views are pleasant looking out over the lake garden although the window in the master bedroom is tiny so much of the view is lost. However in the absence of any net curtain or voile you'll also have everybody looking back in too!

The lobby area was pretty classic and nice scenery with Beca and memorial disc player. Even the above floors are decorated with pictures and vases. They do provide towels and toiletries such as shower foam, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste and hair blower too. The room is quite narrow but it's quite nice to stay for 2 nights.

This is The One I Would Pay For

Stayed 3D2N at this hostel. It totally gave me a whole new experience about traveling at Taiping. The hostel owner, Tricia, is superbly wonderful, very patient with my queries, great at recommending things to do and to eat at Taiping. We had a great chat and the other guest had a great chat too. The rooms are clean, well maintained, the process to check-in and check-out are fast and simple. The place has wonderful deco for IG. The cafe also serves nice drinks, which I had, sat at the table, do people watching and relax as time passed by. Taiping is a town I would definitely want do go back to visit again. And Sojourn would definitely be my first choice in accomodation selection. For those who are driving up to Taiping, there are other offsite street parking and just need to pay an hourly parking fee to the town council. Towel is provided, toiletries are available in the bathroom.

Personal Details Exposed !!!

Reviewed By MChan11

Stayed at this hotel on 27 Nov 2021 night. When I asked for a receipt, the reception took some time to get it prepared. So , I clearly said that I will collect it personally at the front desk later. While me was in the room taking shower, the reception came knocking on every room door. Of course I couldn't hear it. She pass the receipt to my friend on next room without my consent !! By doing so, the receptionist is exposing all my personal details to others / strangers !!! As the receipt is not in an enclosed envelope nor sealed. This is not professional at all !! I was very upset about it and just a sorry of apology doesn't help. What if others misuse my personal details for some crimes ??? Who will hold responsible ??? Very bad service !!

1st time staying in a container

Reviewed By Travelistajen

Wanted to try something new and decided to stay here during our overnight trip to Taiping. Room was small and basic with essentials such as aircon, comfy bed, TV, minimal toiletries as well as an attached bathroom with hot water. Since room was made out of a metal container, afternoons were hot. Suggest to have a bench or shelves so that bags are not placed on the floor. Would be nice to have a beanbag or two so that we on't have to sit on the bed all the time. Also to have more hooks in the room and bathroom. Since it was a weekday during our stay, the place was quiet. The owner, Wen Jing responds very quickly to WhatsApp messages. Overall, it was adequate for a 1-night stay.
