As this hotel is surrounded by the Italian Alps, we wanted to visit in winter and this proved to be an inspired decision...The Hotel Hohenwart in winter is like being in an alpine dream...the warmth of the crackling fires is matched by the incredible staff who are totally faultless!!! The rooms are so welcoming and are completely spotless and hugely comfortable ...the spa area is also wonderful and there are no suitable adjectives other than INCREDIBLE to describe the food at breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner!!! We absolutely love everything about the Hotel Hohenwart and now fully understand why they have such loyal guests who have been visiting this very unique piece of hospitality perfection for decades...the Hotel Hohenwart is very, very special and is an absolute “must visit” if you are in the South Tyrol of Italy!!!

Reviewed By bennipfThe stay in the hotel was relaxing for the whole family and the many excursion and hiking opportunities in the vicinity made the holiday a great short trip. the indoor pool is relatively small and has few pool chairs when the weather is bad. the wellness area is small, but offers everything you need. the food was very good and varied. the buffet for the children could be a little more extensive. the rooms are very comfortable and we also had a kitchenette. the staff was friendly and took care of guests' concerns.

Great all inclusive hotel
Reviewed By Anthony HThere is really something for everyone here. Often the all inclusive hotels have large volumes of food and drink but a poor quality. That is definitely not the case here. The food and service were excellent. With free drinks all day until 11 pm you do not need to think twice about having that espresso at the end of your meal or a cocktail before dinner. There was a great selection of wines that were also very good. There are 4 clay tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor pool (there are plenty of lounge chairs spread out all over the grounds), a gym and of course the surrounding area, so there are plenty of ways to work off all of the food you eat. The views of Meran are beautiful. the rooms were comfy and quiet, the staff friendly and helpful. There are also free tennis lessons and daily hikes or other activities, which are organized by the hotel. There is even a room with a ping pong table, children's billiard table and two Foosball tables, so teenagers also have some activities. For the smaller children there is a playground with a few swings and a trampolin. It is simply a great place to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Reviewed By viharaaThis is a beautiful family run hotel set in the foothills of the Alps. The father and the two sons who are running the place are super hospitable, and helpful. It was wonderful to see how this family was so hands on with everything from waiting tables, to handling the bar, to running the kitchen. We stayed in a panorama view room (highly recommended, the view is priceless!). Decent size with all the necessary things you need. The shower sometimes wasn't giving enough hot water, which they need to fix. The food served in the restaurant was very good, small portions but I was quite fine with it. It is sad that they do not offer room service, breakfast on our balcony with that view would've been quite something! Also, I was a little disappointed that their restaurant was closed during the afternoon, and therefore didn't serve any lunch. To get to any restaurant in the nearby you have to hike down/up for around 15 minutes. The wellness area is very well equipped compared to the size of the rest of the hotel. Must try!

Could be so much better
Reviewed By RestlessRabbitWe booked this because it was part of the Vita Alpina chain of franchised hotels that we've used before, all of which have promoted wellness (well being) but also been quite stylish. Our room was very drab with very unfashionable orange carpets which made it feel very dated (it was refurbished in 2007 and must have looked out of date then). The type of furniture, curtains and even the tiles on the balcony floor all looked dated. It was however pretty clean apart from a huge cobweb on the frame of the balcony door near the floor. The bathroom was OK. Anyway I will stick to the facts and avoid opinion; The geraniums on the balconies as shown in the images on Tripadvisor were not present at all on the side of the hotel looking out to the valley - this is the side with the premium view. The ledges where they normally go were there but not one was used - if you walk around Schenna you will see most hotels have got them. I've never been to a hotel before where I haven't been asked within a few mins of sitting down at breakfast if I want a drink but this was the case on each of the three mornings we stayed. I've also never been to a hotel before that doesn't have "do not disturb signs" on the doors - I might be wrong but this suggests that the management don't want you to choose when the room is made up which kind of sums the place up. We went for half board and the food was good but serving time of 1830-2000 wasn't ideal. Likewise breakfast until 10am was a little bit early compared to some hotels. Also there a lot of hotels in the area that do half board, also offer an afternoon buffet free of change but this one doesn't. Rooms on the front overlooking the valley get very hot on sunny summer evenings and there is no air conditioning, we had to leave the main door open to get a draft in. The free wifi was very fast. The staff (who weren't part of the family that owns the hotel...) were by and large excellent, and Mario and Lea stood out for being particularly helpful and polite. Overall could have been worse but for not much extra you can get a significantly more luxurious experience in Schenna as we did for the next 4 days...

Beautiful, modern hotel
Reviewed By MarinMaraisThe Rosengarten is the newest of 4 different hotels which make up the Schenna Resort and share facilities. Our greeting was not so friendly as we booked through a third party and somewhere our category of room was miscommunicated to the resort so we had to provide proof of our reservation and go through a long conversation with the lady at reception before she was willing to show us to the category of room we had paid for and booked. I say, shame on any resort to welcome a guest like this and even though in the end, our stay was fabulous I have to deduct a point for our unfortunate welcome. Aside from this misunderstanding, the resort and hotel offers everything the modern guest could want. The rooms are beautiful with views out to the mountains. I recommend the Vinea Süd (as in the broschure) or Vinea Suite (as on the Website) and not the Vinea Ost which looks out over a busy street). My only complaint is the modern aesthetic for glass doors for toilets- nobody really likes less privacy for a toilet, when will architects understand this?!? The breakfast buffet is fabulous, there is really nothing that you cannot find for a different and healthy breakfast everyday. The bartenders were very friendly and detail oriented and the bar had a nice selection of gins and tonics. Our server, Christina, was super friendly and professional. The kitchen was a bit hit or miss, many courses were a high quality but others completely missed the target. For a big kitchen, they do very well, but it’s not as good as it could be. Sometimes the creativity of the chef just didn’t translate well into the dish being served, but it’s definitely a question of taste. We visited in off season and all the guests from all the hotels were in the Rosengarten spa because it’s the newest and best. We visited the Schwefelbad Hotel spa and nobody was there. It is just not as nice as the Rosengarten. I guess if you have kids you are limited to the Schwefelbad Spa, but it could get pretty crowded at the Rosengarten in high season if few families come and everyone crowds into the Rosengarten Spa. In the end, it was a really nice stay with a few exceptions but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a modern hotel with a good, above average kitchen and nice, modern spa facilities. My only complaint from the spa is that there are no warm pools for relaxing. The indoor/outdoor pool is too warm for lap swimming but then too cold for relaxing and releasing muscle tension. We might seek out a smaller hotel for our next visit to Meran for a bit more special service and attention, but the Rosengarten is certainly not out of the competition as a bigger hotel with modern, sleek facilities and great views.
