Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp

Samburu Intrepids' location deep inside the reserve guarantees close encounters with Samburu's shyer species, including elephant, leopard and Samburu famous 'special five' - the rare reticulated giraffe, long-necked genernuk antelope, Somali ostrich, Grevy's zebra, and majestic Beisa oryx. This luxurious tented lodge offers modern tents with a private view over the riverbanks.

Honeymoon safari

Reviewed By michaelsflopes

The Intrepids tented lodge has an immediate advantage: it is located in the most beautiful and stimulating national park in Kenya. The staff were incredibly attentive and caring, providing us with a magical couple of honeymoon nights. Beware of the occasional elephant visit during dinner! (We were lucky enough to share dinner with an elephant standing 10 meters away!). Apes tend to solve their discussions with peaceful fights in the middle of the night, which only makes the experience more real. The best stay of our honeymoon.

Elephant Bedroom Camp

Elephant Bedroom Camp offers luxury in a setting of breathtaking beauty. It is set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River and shaded by doum palms and other trees that make up this green belt of riverine forest in Samburu National Reserve. The surrounding Samburu National Reserve is an area of spectacular scenery; its dry plains bisected by the meandering river, with the backdrop of Africa's dramatic mountains, including Mt Kenya. The spacious tents have rustic and colourful African touches, offering all the comforts; including a private plunge pool on the deck, hot and cold running water, electricity (and complimentary herbal shower and bath products.) The lounge and dining area is decorated with vibrant safari style, its soft intimate lighting assuring that this is the ultimate place to relax in between exciting game drives. Elephant, Monkeys, Impalas are amongst the camp's many regular wild visitors, whilst Samburu National Reserve has a good number of lions and leopards and offers the opportunity to see many species endemic to northern Kenya.

Super nice camp, conservancy stricken by drought though

Reviewed By Bella D

The camp and the staff were all in all a very nice experience - attentive service, really good food and the elephants passing by the restaurant veranda and even our tent day and night. The conservancy is rather empty and not much to see though due to the ongoing drought. Pur guide, James, was not very service oriented and I would not book him again. But just to be in the camp and enjoy the nature and good service was really a pleasure. We had windy days which helped calm the heat, I can imagine in the summer it gets really hot. We’ll be happy to come back once the dry times are over!

Ashnil Samburu Camp

Ashnil Samburu Camp sits in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve which takes its name from an oasis of crystal clear water at the Western end of the reserve. It is separated from samburu National Reserve by Ewaso Nyiro River and is less hilly and dense yet equallly very attractive. After a gruelling game drive you can take a dip in our pool which is a wonderful viewing deck of the Ewaso Nyiro River and laze around in the calm.

Fantastic but

Reviewed By Tripsta007

Staff were absolutely fantastic. Couldn’t do enough to make our stay better. Food was great and lovely to have a menu choice. Only downside was other guests playing YouTube etc at volume without headphones. Why should we have to listen to that in the serene and relaxing atmosphere of the National Reserve. Suggest a house rule to state that the minority of people who want to listen to phones like that should use headphones

A picturesque location

By the time we reached Maralal it was late in the night and we straight went to this lodge. After a long journey of almost 12 hours, the comfy bed and duve cover were a welcome treat. It was like heavenly. We crashed into the bed and the moment I hit the pillow, I was off. The next morning I came out to the cock crows and cows mooing in the distance. The lodge is beautifully perched on a hill giving a breathtaking view of the entire town of Maralal. Made of logs this lodge is among the finest accommodation you can find in Maralal. So if you want to relax after a long day drive, than certainly this is the place to be. Masood DAR GUIDE Magazine

La meilleure adresse de Samburu

Reviewed By Meander562378

Sabache Camp

Stunning location and lovely staff

Reviewed By Oliveschat

Beautiful location, our room was clean and had a stunning view. Flushing toilet and shower. Shower wasn’t particularly hot but it’s so warm in Samburu it really didn’t matter. We went full board and loved the food. There was plenty of it! And the staff set up a table for us in the evening out by a camp fire to eat dinner which was perfect. We had good signal and managed to FaceTime family from our room. Power is only available from 5-11pm but it made no difference to us. We did a sunrise hike of Mt olololkwe which was wonderful. It’s a challenging hike, very steep in some places but well worth it for the view at the top. There was flocks of eagles and vultures and you can see for miles. Our guide Steven was brilliant and we learnt so much about Kenya and the mountain from him. In the evening we listen to Steven tell us stories by the camp fire. There were monkeys in and about camp, and a friendly camp cat Sabache. We found it relaxing to just sit out and read a book after the hike. Would totally recommend!! We brought a cool box with some drinks and things in which was really helpful- there arnt any drink making facilities in the room.

Maralal Safari Lodge

Maralal Safari Lodge Welcome to Maralal Safari Lodge and Wildlife Reserve, the most historic Colonial Era safari lodges in northern Kenya located in the unique Maralal National Sanctuary: the very heart of Samburu County, Kenya. Fully renovated in 2019. Owned and operated by Tulips Food Parlour Ltd. Guests enjoy free high speed WIFI, a big screen television in the lounge with international news and sports channels, swimming and much more including a modern kitchen offering both local and international cuisine. Experience wildlife as you've never seen it before as the animals approach within a few meters of the cabins, monkeys clamber on the roofs and more. Guests love opening their doors and seeing zebra, eland and impala grazing on the lawns, or hearing the leopards and hyenas laugh in the night. We offer 20 luxurious Swiss chalet style rooms, each equipped with a fireplace and a private balcony. With our conference facilities too, we are the perfect choice for pleasure or business travellers who seek tranquility. Maralal, just 3Km down the road, is the seat of government for Samburu County. This bustling town of 20,000 people offers many local crafts and a variety of lively places for both modern and traditional nightlife. The lodge is built of cedar and stone, and sits on the hillside overlooking Maralal. Here, in the heart of the National Sanctuary, the wildlife reserve thrives as the animals roam freely from the forests on three sides to the lowlands to the south. Five square kilometers of lush woodland and pasture straddle the hillside, with leopards and other mammals living in the natural caves. Within the lodge, the bar is, perhaps, the best stocked bar in northern Kenya, boasting no less than 15 famous malt whiskeys, 15 types of vodka and much more ... Oh, and a full range of cold beers too. One of the most appealing aspects of Maralal Safari Lodge is that it's a meeting point for the local people too. Above all, Maralal Safari Lodge exists to support the wildlife. All profits are devoted to the employment of Game Rangers to protect the wildlife from poachers, and to find the wildlife orphanage. So now, your visit to Kenya can really make a difference! Karibu (Swahili for 'welcome')

Breakfast with the zebras

Reviewed By Safari_so_goodie

Maralal Lodge is situated in the wildlife reserve of the same name, and consists of extensive grounds – partly tended and partly wild – with wooden cottages dotted around the grounds, reminiscent of ski chalets. Green trees and flowering plants were a very welcome sight for us, having just returned from the deserts of northern Kenya. The chalets are very comfortable, with spacious living accommodation, nice beds, warm blankets, a fire place and an en suite bathroom. There is also a balcony overlooking a small valley where I believe animals can often be seen, although there weren't any there the one night we stayed. The balcony has no hand rail or guards, so if you are travelling with young children it is best to keep an eye on them out there. There is a swimming pool, but we didn't use it so can't make any comments either way. We were the only people staying at the time, which was just the luck of the draw, as the following night I believe they were fully booked. We found the lodge a little disorganised, as if we had caught them unawares, but extremely friendly and helpful staff, good food and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The lodge overlooks the only (man made) permanent water in the park, therefore a number of animals and birds congregate there; literally yards from your table. You can enjoy a drink, your breakfast, or lunch while watching zebra, impala, monkeys, warthogs and numerous birds going about their daily business! Awesome! In the evening they lit a fire for us and we toasted marshmallows which we'd brought with us. We were even lucky enough to spot a zorilla as we were having dinner! The icing on the cake! Check out the animal orphanage which runs alongside the lodge – when we were there they had the cutest cheetah and an adorable baby wild pig! Previously rescued bushbuck return to the lodge most days to be fed too. This is a great place for animal lovers. If you are after a slick, corporate, international operation, this place is probably not for you. If, however, like me, you prefer a friendly, laid back, real African place with all its quirkiness, a great bar, good food, comfortable accommodation and plenty of wildlife at your feet, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff

Reviewed By 939adriane

We stayed there for about four days. Even though there were some issues with Wifi and lightbulbs, the staff was very friendly and took care of everything right away. The outside area is bright, colorful and has a warm, family-like atmosphere. The rooms are cozy and clean. There is hot water for showers. Everyone speaks English.
