Not an international standard hotel
Reviewed By Fiona PI chose this hotel due to the Novotel brand name. I was seeking a known level of cleanliness and facilities by choosing the brand. I was disappointed, although I recognise that this hotel was not expensive. The main signs of a hotel in China catering mainly to locals are (1) sand ask trays at the elevator lobbies for people to spit phlegm into (2) condoms as the most prominent minibar item and (3) breakfast options are all Chinese. This hotel featured all 3 of those things. My bathroom has blood spatter stains on the blinds, the curtains were stained. Finally, the hotel is miles from central Rizhao, which I should have checked when I booked. It was very inconvenient.

Best hotel service ever
Reviewed By Frank SThis is perhaps the best hotel in terms of service that I have ever experienced. Better than the Ritz Carlton. Every possible detail is attended to. The staff are pleasant, gracious, and always there to attend the least possible need. I highly recommend the Artwell International as the place to stay for your next visit to Rizhao. Our corporate rate was also ridiculously inexpensive for the value at something like $56 US per night.

Spacious Room, Good beachfront Scenery, Sunrise City
Reviewed By sinvoonStayed here 3 nights, the room is very spacious, toilet is very spacious too with bathtub and showeroom; with blind looking over the bed through the transparent glass. There is a balcony overlooking the beach and quiet residential area from my room. Breakfast is the same everyday, Lunch serves with fresh seafood such as oyster, prawn and so on sometime sashimi. Make sure you set your alarm to get to the beach for sunrise, heard to be one best sunrise in china by the beach.

Some makeover but not enough
Reviewed By Traveller9931Looks nice from the outside but dated decor inside. Bathroom urgently needed upgrading as hot water for shower took a very long time to come on. Only 3 lifts serving 30 floors, often crowded as we were part of delegates for a conference. Had to wait a long time to access the lifts for breakfast, meetings and departure. Buffet breakfast was acceptable mostly towards local tastes. Staff very unhelpful and won't or can't communicate in English. Mall beside the hotel ran by Capitamall had shops but few shoppers. Very quiet.

Decent hotel in Rizhao
Reviewed By SilverwoodsFirst of all, this is a much better hotel than the Artwell Hotel in Rizhao. The beds are much more comfortable so they allow for a relatively good sleep. However, the pillows aren't great - they are kind of flimsy. The hotel itself is kind of outdated. It's probably 30 years old. It is is in pretty good shape all things considered. The room was clean as was the bathroom. It's just that everything needs to be updated. The service at the front desk is inspiring. There are 4 or 5 pretty young ladies waiting to take care of you. No, I don't mean that! They are just very attentive and helpful. I must say, Chinese service is exceptional. This includes the restaurant as well. Professional and friendly. The negative with the stay includes pretty thin walls. I could here my mate snoring next door to me last night. And as i said, the pillows weren't very good. And the TV only gets 1 English speaking channel and it only shows the news. Western hotels in China will have multiple English tv channels which is appreciated. Another positive is the location. The hotel is located right on the water at the harbour. Go for a nice walk and look at the old fishing boats. They are quite something! The next time I am in Rizhao I will stay here.
