The White Swan Inn

A warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome awaits you at this proper family run Inn. Next year will be our 30th at The White Swan and we have just about got things organised. From the moment you walk through the doors you'll feel at home. We aim to keep things simple and just let you relax ...Tom Parker Bowles reckons 'Every market town should have a White Swan' and the Daily Telegraph described us as 'God's own Country Pub' on a recent visit. If you read the reviews here you will get a flavour of what we are trying to do. We are an Inn with a lovely restaurant and 2 rosette food but not the plastic fine dining you find in many four star properties. Real food, real people, lovely rooms and great value for money. And by the way if you are not delighted I will give you your money back so long as you tell us at the time.Victor Buchanan - Owner

Lovely overnight stay on DBB package

Really good experience here especially of customer service. I made an error when booking online (accidentally booked two rooms instead of one!) and this was sorted promptly and kindly by staff. On arrival we were unhappy with the room we were allocated as it smelt very strongly of smoke and again this was sorted promptly and kindly by staff. Food was excellent and the room very comfortable. Location is great, we were stopping en route to meeting family in Whitby.

Excellent, friendly, good location

Reviewed By Vinny1961

We stayed in 2 two double rooms at the hotel for 2 nights. This review is for room 9. The Old Manse is well located. 10 minutes walk from the Coastliner Bus and 5 minutes walk from the steam railway, shops and restaurants.(slightly uphill on the way back) The room was spacious and very comfortable. There was a kettle, tea, coffee and some chocolate snacks. A selection of toiletries in the bathroom. The rooms are quite close together and you can hear some noise from talking and people coming and going. The quality of the breakfast was very good. The warm, friendly courteous nature of all the staff at the hotel made our stay very enjoyable. Valerie was kind enough to contact us and post back a jumper which was left in a room. I would stay at The Old Manse again.

Very disappointing in every respect

Reviewed By Rotto

We arrived early for our booked table and asked to have a drink in the bar first. This did not go well with the frosty lady at the bar - we weren’t allowed to sit in the bar and were told to go and sit in an empty, characterless room at the back. The waitress was good and tried her best, but the meal was very poor - tasteless sausages served with Smash and glutinous packet gravy. The scampi was good but the chips were not crisp or warm. The wine was beyond dreadful - of the lowest cheapest quality.

The Black Swan

A 17th century coaching Inn serving a wide range of local real ales and good quality, home-made food. There is an on site brewery and a dedicated music venue, The Cockpit, which opens for ticketed acoustic music every couple of weeks. There are 9 en-suite rooms available, 5 of which are fully refurbished. Large outdoor seating area at the rear of the building. There is also plenty of parking for customers, the entrance is at the rear of the building. The building dates from the early 17th Century and has been modified and added onto over the years, so be aware there are at least two sets of stairs up to the bedrooms - so not probably suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Lovely relaxing stay

Reviewed By lyndabE5201QM

The cleanliness was absolutely first class and the food excellent. Small bar adjacent to the dining room a very relaxing two night stay. Twin beds very comfortable and view over the fields was an extra bonus. Nicely decorated and modern room with large modern en suite. Becky was front of house and could not be more attentive and friendly, she seemed to be everywhere in the hotel. PS if you want accomodation near Pickering it is not far from the centre but you definately need a car as the hotel is certainly not within walking distance and down a country lane too.

Wonderful B and B

Reviewed By Lobstermae

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at this idyllic B and B. We were in Pickering for a wedding and were late back- it was so lovely to return to our rooms left beautifully cosy with lamps lit so we didn’t have to stumble around. Lots of lovely little touches in the rooms like fresh flowers, a great range of teas and coffees and delicious homemade cake.
