The 10 best hotels in Isle of Lewis, United Kingdom

August 6, 2022 Deane Carmody

A visit to the Isle of Lewis is like stepping into the pages of a Scottish fairy tale. Everywhere you look, medieval structures remind you of the island’s remarkable history. The legendary Callanish Standing Stones poke up from the ground like a strange and massive stone city. The Blackhouse, the Shawbost Norse Mill and Kiln, and the Carloway Broch all offer insight into what life on Lewis used to look like. Cheerful Stornoway boasts a charming, colorful harbor and several lovely restaurants and pubs.

Great meals

Reviewed By D7723IYcarolh

We were a party of four & had booked a meal for Saturday 28th May 2022 for 6.30pm. We were greeted at restaurant and taken straight to our table, the place was very busy but within a couple of minutes a young lady came with menu's & asked for our drink order. This was how it was all evening, we never had to wait long for anything. The food was really good too and very well presented. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful even though they all must have done their 10,000 steps just that evening. We would definitely recommend The Crown, Stornoway for a great meal & great staff.

Royal Hotel Stornoway

Stornoway's most historic hotel, the Royal nestles in the heart of Stornoway, beside the marina, where you can relax, enjoy the hotel's cosy character and enjoy dining in our Boatshed Restaurant or in HS1, the town's 1st cafe bar.If on business, you'll probably appreciate free wireless internet access available throughout the hotel. What matters so much more than bricks and mortar, though, is the warmth of the welcome and the friendly, easy service you'll receive - for the Hebrides has a great tradition of hospitality. While the Royal Hotel enjoys a delightful view over the colourful, bustling harbour to the splendour of Lews Castle and its grounds. The town centre is only around 200 metres walk.

Great location and food

Reviewed By Photogs123

We stayed at the Royal Hotel for three nights in May. The location is just minutes from the ferry, there was free parking, and two restaurants on-site. We had to take a room with two single beds, but they were comfortable and the size of the room was large. The staff could not have been any nicer. One night we had dinner at the HS-1 Cafe. It was casual with the best chicken fajita wrap I have ever had. The sauce was so delicious, I was glad I ordered the rice to get every last drop. The next night we ate at the Boatshed Restaurant. The service was a bit slow, but the friendly staff made up for the wait time. The Seafood Pot was fresh and delicious. Breakfast at the Boatshed was included and was the perfect start to each day. Try to get a table with a view of the harbor and Lews Castle. The hotel was a perfect base to explore the Callanish Stones and many other sights around the Isle of Lewis.

We have just checked out after staying 2 nights here and we could not fault this hotel at all. The service was amazing, every single member of staff was lovely and always took time for a quick chat. We also bought along our extra large dog and he was also made to feel as welcome as we were! The food was incredible both for evening meals and breakfast. I have not experienced customer service at this level in any hotel I have stayed in, the staff are an absolute credit to this hotel and were wonderful. Hugo absolutely loved is stay too! Thank you!

My stay at the hotel was for a single night and I found that, although elements of the building were slightly tiered it was actually very comfortable and the staff and owner very friendly, they even allowed us to charge our electric bikes from their laundry. The food was excellent and very fairly priced, I would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Wardicott

Rod welcomed us with a cup of tea, offer of cake and a dram of whisky. Rod is very Covid conscious and I respect his guidelines for guests. Wardicott, a ten-minute drive from Stornoway town centre, is spotlessly clean and very well presented. The beds were comfortable and the rooms had everything required to make our stay pleasant. Rod is a fine host and provided us with tips for trips around Lewis. Gloria cooked excellent breakfasts with an extensive menu to choose from. Juice, cereals and fresh fruit and yoghurt are available. The porridge was particularly tasty. All-in-all, an excellent stay and I can recommend staying at Wardicott.

Rushed and limited menu

We had dinner here whilst staying in a local B&B. Had a nice drink outside before dinner. Unfortunately v limited menu, definitely need to increase the vegetarian selection. 'nachos' was just some crisps with a v small amount of salsa, guacamole and sour cream. Good starters and good scallops. We were rushed through by staff who were cleaning the place before we were finished.
