Reviewed By GOH77The town that hosts the Svevo is practically dead. I can't imagine the actual need to have a hotel here, although somebody told me that military training camps are found in the area. The hotel itself simply serves its purpose. It is clean and the service is good. So are breakfast and meals. The decor and furniture seem a bit tired and are struggling to keep at pace with the times. Bathroom faucets have lost their shine and the shower is more of a erratic water stream rather than a shower. The cubicle was falling apart. Wifi on the otherhand isn't bad. If its just a basic lodging you're after most probably the Svevo is your only choice. Its basic but clean and the service is good.

Reviewed By Miguel TI stayed at Il Grifone with my couple for 8 days during August, and I must say we were not satisfied with our experience, moreover with the high expectations we had due to people’s reviews. There are a few things I would like to highlight, and that I think could be improved for future guests. To begin with, our towels were not changed during the whole stay. We do not demand a daily change, understanding this is a B&B, but we consider that 8 days were too many. Our room was on the first floor, just next to one of the worker’s own room, what made us feel uncomfortable. Furtheron, the wifi is extremelly slow (we made a speed connection test just because of the lack of signal). We found breakfast above average for this kind of stays. In general, we felt that the hosts were in a rush for us to end our breakfast and leave for the day. We always bear in mind the actual health situation all around the world, furthemore we both are medical doctors. To finish on a good note, we must say that one of the ladies working there, was very nice and friendly with us during the whole stay. The place and structure has the basics for being one of the best B&B of Gioia del Colle but nowadays it does not reach the best qualities.

The building was spick and span and the room had all the amenities one could ask for. The breakfast was delicious. If you're looking for a quaint small room for a night or two this is a wonderful option.

Great location (apart from the nearby church bells that rang for a few minutes early each morning). Owners and their family were so friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

What a lovely place to experience
Reviewed By priscillapoThis was a great place for me and my husband as we wanted to experience more of the Puglia countryside. The couple who runs the B&B were very accommodating and they pampered us with sumptuous meals and great conversations (both well travelled and spoke fluent English) they gave us good tips on what to see and experience in the area. They have very clean homey rooms and a lovely Trullo shop where they sell unique Pugliese products and delicacies. Truly an amazing experience we will never forget. Very highly recommended.

We were welcomed by Angelo and his family in their beautiful farm where they did a fantastic job with implementing rooms. The rooms were spacious enough, very clean, modern and they never get too hot thanks to good isolation. The bed was a little hard for my own personal taste but it isn’t something that will keep you awake at night. Should it become hotter you can simply turn on the AC unit and set it to your preferred temperature. They also have strong WiFi which is sometimes hard to come by in the countryside. Breakfast is served every morning, and you can also opt for a package that includes dinner. Speaking about dinner, since this place is a functioning farm, it means that your meals will mostly contain produce that comes straight from their garden and that makes a great difference for your tastebuds. From basil to zucchini to tomatoes all the way to mozzarella, they all grow/make it in-house - it doesn’t get fresher than that. The food is delicious and authentic, don’t expect your classic Italian dishes like lasagna or carbonara, here you’ll be served lesser known dishes from Puglia and it’s all the better for it. We loved some dishes so much that we asked for the recipe and they not only gave it to us, they kindly invited to show us how to make it the next day - this goes the same for mozzarella, they will show you how they make it and you can be a part of the process. The family is the nicest and they very helpful. They’ll always recommend you a good place to get food, activities to do in the area or shops to get specific products even if those can be in different cities. On top of speaking Italian, Angelo also speaks french and a little bit of English but should it no be enough, one of his two sons Vincenzo speaks very good English. I could go on, but at this point I can only but recommend going there yourself - you will not regret it, it is a unique experience and it will make your stay in Puglia unforgettable. Thank you again Angelo, chef Marizia, Vincenzo and Nino - you made our stay more than great and we will for sure come back. Ciao !

The best place to centre yourself to explore the region
Reviewed By Balladeer1248First a small note of warning. The free parking available onsite is actually street-parking-take-your-chances. And on the day of our arrival the square was packed. But Mariella moved her car for us, and gave us a spot right in front of the very substantial front door. As it turns out, people do some pretty inventive parking in this town anyway (as in much of Italy), and so the ad is not really deceiving. You won't have trouble parking once Mariella or Sebastian show you. Call them a little before you arrive if you can. As for the rest – wow! On the wall of the common area is an award from booking.com, 9.8 for excellence. I believe this is wrong. I would give it a perfect 10 any day! The building dates back to 800AD, meaning it is almost 1,300 years old. Inside there is quaintness and quirkiness everywhere, from the statues in the high-ceilinged foyer, through the ancient stone staircases, to the mismatched heavy wooden doors off each landing as you tread your way upstairs. You open a massive (modern) steel door to enter the specific apartments, and it brings you into the shared space, whereupon there is a very modern and well-equipped kitchen, a well-stocked fridge, and three small dining tables, each designed for two. The décor is fresh, the accessories quirky and interesting, including numerous flower arrangements, and the high ceiling adds to the feeling of spaciousness. The French doors leading to the Juliette balcony top it off nicely. Off this room are two doors and an alcove. Each of the doors lead to an apartment. In the alcove is another door, to the third apartment, along with a staircase leading upwards. And up here is a delightful surprise – a very usable rooftop terrace that looks across the town in all directions, including down into the main square. On the day we arrived the square was bustling with preparations for a festival. We only saw inside one apartment of course, so I can only assume it is representative of them all. Our bedroom was similar in size and proportion to the common space, long and wide and with the very high curved ceiling. The same fresh décor and quirky artworks etc, and a super-sized bed. At 196cm tall, this was a very welcome (and quite rare) sight for me. It proved to be very comfortable. The bathroom is equally good. Breakfast was as good as we have enjoyed any place in the world, and set us up for our busy day. We could never eat it all at a sitting, and we ended up every day taking some of the pastries with us as we travelled around. But by far the best thing about Casa Nine is the incredibly warm welcome you get from Mariella and Sebastian, two of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and who will do anything practical they can to make your stay as good as it can be. It wasn’t the cheapest stay on our trip through Italy and France this time, nor was it the most expensive, but it certainly was the best. I recommend it highly.
