Had a wonderful time at this hotel. What I like: - Everything is very clean - Smells nice even in the elevator and hallway - Staff are very polite and helpful - Nearby cafes - They restock the amenities - Minibar is free ( they restocked this as well) - The body wash, shampoo and hand soap is by Tanamera instead of from an unknown brand.

Excellent service from the staff at the concierge of Hotel Jen. Rachel was particularly helpful. She was always so genuine and cheerful. She went out of her way to help us organise our daily trip as well as the needs in the room. We only realised that she was still in her traineeship period when we departed. She was so mature and efficient. A wonderful staff and ambassador for the hotel and Penang. Excellent service

Eastern & Oriental Hotel

The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient.

Second time at this beautiful hotel. We had a ground floor premier suite in the Heritage Wing. The room was nicely decorated with a lounge area opening onto the terrace. The bathroom was large with a big tub, but no bath foam as the amenities were in the shower and not movable. That was disappointing as a bath with no bubbles is pointless! The menu was almost identical in all the restaurants, pool and in the room. It was quite limited but ok as we only stayed for 3 nights. Staff were all great, very friendly and professional. I also loved the Heritage Wing pool. It was never very busy despite the hotel being full when we arrived. We will definitely be back again!

I have booked 5 Nights for S. King room, and discovered it is much more costly than D. Room, I have also joined the members and hope to get some discount but was deeply disappointed. The room carpet floor looks dirty and old due to the design and nearby have no food to eat. Limited staffing man the counter and need to wait. I don't recommend this hotel for future stay.

Wayyy Beyond My Expectations!

Reviewed By mcmeelo

When I read the reviews of this hotel I was impressed, especially in relation to their room rates. I am used to 4-5 star hotels in both my professional and personal travels and when I booked into the Cabin Room at Savv, I didn't really know what to expect. I was only hoping the reviews were true. My initial booking was only for 3 nights but I ended up extending my stay to 7 nights :) It was absolute COMFORT. Though the room was smaller than what I'm used to, there was enough space for 1 person and several bags. My favourite thing about the hotel is the BED and BATHROOM. The BED (even though for Cabin Room it was a single bed), makes you just want to lie in. An added comfort is the movable side table (not sure what it's called) that made gave you no reason to move out of bed once you've tucked yourselves in. The BATHROOM was another pleasant surprise. It had the luxurious feel in the layout, space, finishing and fittings. Felt like a 4-5 star hotel (minus the excessive amenities of course). Other exceptional areas were: - cleanliness - friendliness of housekeeping staff - personalized service throughout - tap water filtered by Bacfree (ready to drink) - a light on the lower part of the wall near the floor that you could leave on to make it easier to find your way to the bathroom at night - small pool with jacuzzi function - open deck with plenty of sun and breeze I am thoroughly impressed at how Savv Hotel managed to get it right - ie; minimizing cost by doing away with the frills but retaining the nuances that makes a luxury hotel, hence being able to transfer that added value to guests. Thank you to the hotel staff and management. Kudos to all of you!

Cheong Fatt Tze - The Blue Mansion

Come Home to Historic Splendour 'One of 10 Greatest Mansions In The World' - Lonely Planet 2011. A grand mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which history calls home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives. Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in exclusive heritage stays, guided tours; and beautifully tailored events on its premises. The favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly also the favourite home of George Town.

The Town House Experience. Such a wonderful stay at Cheong Fatt Tze.

I came here with my Partner and we stayed at The Blue Mansion for one night and Tjong on the ropewalk, which is their town house property for 2 nights. Both were really good. Daniel and his team were very friendly and hospitable, and the bar tender, Ali also made great drinks at the bar. The hotel gives you a homely feel, and it's good to see it full again. We tried something different and checked in their two bed room town house. Location wise the townhouse is located centrally to all the famous Penang restaurants and bars. It's very central and it is also private. I would suggest trying their town house collection. You really absorb the Georgetown feel there. Worth a visit.

Could be better with some form of QC check on housekeeping

Reviewed By ShazFX

Ascott Gurney is the latest hotel to open in Penang. It has taken place of the former Gurney Hotel which used to be a luxurious 5 star hotel I used to frequent with large guest rooms. Ascott Gurney has taken its place - refurbished the whole establishment from top to bottom. Expect everything to be brand spanking new! I'm a business traveller who recently booked this Serviced Appartment for the weekend of 3rd-5th June via Trip Actions (my company uses this for company wide travel) and somehow on their end it shows as Expedia (thus - you won't be able to collect any ASR rewards). Stayed in Room 3206 for 2 nights (note - if you're a light sleeper, don't get this room as it's right in front of the elevator). This is the Premier Deluxe King that comes with a full Kitchenette, a spacious bathroom and larger than average hotel room sleeping area. This Hotel deserves a 5 star! However, if there were QC checks done appropriately - this wouldn't have been an issue. During my stay, i found... 1. About 6-8 strands of very long hair (most probably women's hair) that was stuck on the bed sheets (below the duvet cover), found them when i pulled the duvet (comforter) to tuck in for sleep. It was disgusting but it was very late at night to do anything. 2. There were dried pee stains on the toilet seat that wasn't cleaned properly from the previous stay. 3. All the cups in the kitchen were stained with previous occupants drink marks. That was totally disgusting and i didn't even dare to use any of them to make my morning cup of coffee. 4. Water Heater - seriously something wrong with the hot water, i placed it to the far right (blue) for cold, the water was boiling hot (even after waiting for 30 seconds). I moved the handle to the far left (red) for hot, the water was even hotter! 5. Water Pressure - when using the shower handle, was really bad. However the rainfall option had no issue with water pressure. These are just small issues that I would like to highlight to the management. I tried e-mailing [email protected], the email bounced back saying that only emails from internal domains @the-ascott.com (means internal people) are only allowed to be received by this account. That being said, I will give this establishment another try as I believe in the brand. I will be staying again for another business trip this coming Friday 24th June where I've asked 10 other team members to book 10 rooms at The Ascott for the same trip. PS. The breakfast at RM35 per person was good enough for a business traveller with a variety to choose from. Those that complained about the breakfast here - please note that this is a Business Travellers Serviced Appartment Hotel, not a full fledge hotel. Looking forward to a better stay this time round. shazfx AT gmail dot com
