Outstanding pub/restaurant

Reviewed By Sumsetguy

We had two excellent meals here whilst staying in the adjacent Marston’s hotel. Duty manager Emily was really friendly and provided excellent service during our breakfast visit. Food at breakfast was of a high quality and the continental section was continually replenished. Having been extremely impressed with breakfast service we decided to have our evening meal here also. Upon arrival for our evening meal duty manager Jannine was very helpful and ensured we were seated promptly in the restaurant. Our floor server Shianne was excellent throughout and the food was of a very high quality. This is an outstanding pub/restaurant which was impeccably clean throughout and has an interesting and varied menu. I would highly recommend to all.

Very Basic 2* Hotel

Reviewed By 1_Miffy_S

The essential basics were lacking. Unfortunately, visitors cannot upload videos. - The room smelt stale and unclean, despite the bedroom and bathroom windows being open. - One of the laundered white towels was stained with blue patches. - The carpet was sticky in places. Wearing footwear is advisory. - The kettle filter had to be cleaned of black specks before use. - The bathroom was narrow with extremely low water pressure. You had to hold the shower in one hand whilst using the other to wash. As soon as the shower head was replaced in the bracket, the water ran cold. It was extremely challenging and frustrating trying to find the correct temperature. Even a minuscule turn of the thermostat ranged from scalding hot to cold. The crisp, paper thin shower curtain did little to prevent water dripping onto the floor. The toilet cistern continued to flow and then into a trickle for a while after being flushed. - Vibrations from people walking on the creaky corridor and neighbouring bedroom floorboards/tiled bathroom/opening their bedroom door/pulling the bathroom pull cord light switch travelled through the thin walls, across my bedroom floor and into the bed. It felt as though we were sharing the same room. - All sockets were not working. Following a 20 minute process of elimination, trying various cables and appliances, the problem was solved. Switching on the the switch to a switched double socket powered up all the sockets. Light switches were unaffected. - The light above the bedroom mirror was not working. The similar switched type of light in the ladies toilet was intermittent, so unsuitable for anybody with epilepsy. The toilet seat in the ladies also needs to be secured properly. - The raised screw on the door plate needs to be fixed to avoid snagging of clothes. Additional observations: - Photographs on the website are not a true reflection of all rooms and facilities. The hotel is need of general maintenance, and electrical and plumbing inspections, particularly to the rooms that are not advertised. - The entrance to the approximately 12 vehicle narrow car park, less if there are vans, was not lit or clearly signposted. - The free Wi-Fi is limited. It works intermittently in the bedroom and the dining room adjacent to the reception area. - Breakfast was basic. Milk, sugar, water, coffee and cereals. Tea, and a cooked breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom and baked beans is available on request. A continental breakfast and fruit were not offered. - Staff unwinding in the beer garden at the end of the night were quite loud and could be heard a fair distance away. Conclusion: Whilst some might find this hotel quaint and acceptable, personally, it is unlikely that I will be staying here again.

Overworked Staff

Reviewed By MadCook67

The first person we spoke to on reception was half asleep. she said she had been working non-stop since 8am (it was now 5pm). All the staff were similar, zombified. They certainly weren't overworked in the cleaning department as the whole place looked tired and unkept. Health & Safety didnt appear to worry anyone either; one of the internal exit doors had a handle missing on the inside so in an emergency you couldn't use the door as an exit which it was meant for. Our room was miniscule with a large double bed taking up much of the space.. The sash widow was stuck open at the top and faced on to the street. There was no mat in the shower and the water came up to your ankles. I slipped and cracked my head. They don't provide hand towels but, after several requests, they came the next day. It was a good breakfast though.

My husband and I stayed here with family to attend the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow. This is a lovely family run Guest House and you are sure receive a friendly welcome. The rooms are tastefully decorated with very comfortable beds and a great view of the surrounding fields and wildlife. Breakfast was the best we’ve ever had from previous hotel/B&B stays with a varied choice on offer. We opted for the full cooked breakfast and was all locally sourced and fresh produce. You will not be disappointed if you choose Willowbrook.

What a find, great food, great service, it was very busy and we waited a little while for food but the food was incredible when it did arrive, “kezza” was our waitress together with one other sorry cannot remember her name but she was also fab. Good choice of different meats with a variety of vegetables, catered for dairy free member of our group only downside there were no desserts apart from sorbet! They had a vegan dessert on their chalk board but we’re told it was not available, they could have rubbed this out, so left after the main meal, would definitely return would recommend booking in advance

Sunday lunch with Grandson

Reviewed By Richard L

Main lunch definitely under par for a supposedly top restaurant in Wales. I will start with the one starter I ordered, which was whitebait, which tasted fine although there was not much of it. The mains ordered were beef, pork and turkey lunches. This is where the food went downhill. The beef was fine, the turkey fine but the pork was like old leather and was tougher to cut and eat than the beef. Some of the veg was undercooked and the stuffing and roast potatoes had obviously been given a quick blast in the deep fat fryer before being served (or so it seemed ). All very disappointing. There was also some greenery garnish on the plate which I have to say in my opinion looked out of place. The meal however did finish on more of a high as the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake were acceptable. Not great. First time experience and will probably give it a miss in the future.
