Reviewed By JanvanderVlugtI recently spent 6 nights in Hostel Villa Gherardi in Barga. I chose the charming village of Barga as a base to explore the beautiful Garfagnana-region in Toscana. The very affordable hostel is located inside an impressive historical villa dating back to the 16th century. It has a big garden and offers sweeping views of the old town. Amazing! The hostel has a great ambiance and authentic Italian feel to it. It is spacious, tastefully decorated and comfortable. To enjoy a wonderful breakfast on the balcony of the dining room is simply the best start of the day you can imagine. But most important of all: the place is run by the wonderful Adele, a bilingual Scottish lady of Italian descent. Superfriendly, efficient and someone who really makes you feel at home. If you plan to stay in Barga, Villa Gherardi is definitely the place to go. I highly recommend it.

Our complex is ideal for families and suitable for walkers, bikers. Our restaurant is available for hotel guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have a veranda with a spectacular view overlooking the Apuan Mountains.We are happy to take bookings for parties and special occasion dinners. La Mezzaluna is also a cookery school. A wonderful introduction to the mountain villages of Tuscany
Reviewed By RickarinI stayed 7 nights with La Mezzaluna for a cooking vacation with Cook and Dine with Rita Tuscan Style. We had four hands on cooking lessons that included fresh pasta, pizza, veggie dishes, seafood, and desserts. We took day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Barga, Castlenuovo di Garfagnana, and Sommocolonia. We had tastings at wineries in Montecarlo and Gallicano. Our group of seven participants included other solos, a couple, and some friends traveling. We were so very well cared for during our visit. Classically styled Italian rooms, with daily cleaning. Airport transfers and transportation for all excursions. All meals included. Daily free time to unwind and reset. Cookbooks to take home our new skills. And wine- so much wine!

Amazing early 1900 villa in the gorgeous ancient town of Barga. The staff is amazing as are the grounds, pool, breakfast, rooms, and balconies are stunning. The staff washed our baby clothes every day to help us with our long trip. The villa's tower is the best lookout point in that stunning region of Lucca. The owner offered to help with geneology as well. Just superb. We are going back!

L hotel è pulitissimo e siamo stati accolti con grande cortesia dal personale. Gratuitamente ci è stata sostituita la stanza da economy a standard e avevamo un bellissimo balcone panoramico. La colazione, alla Locanda della Posta, è abbondante e di altissima qualità. Se proprio volessimo trovare un punto di miglioraramento è l assenza della piscina. Ci torneremo sicuramente!

Dipped in the green of the forests in Appennines Tuscany, surrounded by the Apuane Alps,is the agriturism 'I Cerretelli' situated in the centre of the historical town of tiglio, barga, 520 metres above sea level, and it's name is given to the very old turkey oak trees that are situated on the property and dates back to 1658 (east wing) and 1771 (south wing), as can still be read on the stones above the he main entrances. The agriturism is a village in itself surrounded by the walls of the property of the agricultural company. You will also find the swimming pool (6 metre for 12 metre 140 cm), with sun terraces, the sun grotto, the children's play park, a private park, olive grove.

Reviewed By DanZengWe came for three days to this gorgeous house, which is done to the perfection. Especially if you hear the whole story about it from the owner. The apartment itself was great and the pool area was even better. Our son loved the playroom which was filled with wooden toys. He did not want to leave it. :) It is a great location to start trips and we enjoyed every one of them. The Vergemoli panorama road was beautiful and Il Totto restaurant in Sassi was just perfect. Even though they did not speak English, we were able to order great lunch in this local place where they probably don’t have foreigners for lunch that often. Just one note, it is kind of tricky to drive all the way down to the house so we did that just the first and last day. In between we were leaving the car up top at the parking lot because the road is very narrow. Giaconda is a fabulous host and gave us tips on restaurants and trips. Breakfast was nice and we loved their homemade honey and olive oil. We will definitely be back because we fell in love with this area, this place and L’Altana restaurant in Barga. OMG, we went there twice in 3 days and it was so good that we will never forget it. Beef fillet with balzamico sauce is the top. Thank you for a great start of our Tuscany roadtrip.

Casa Cordati is a 17th-century palazzo in the historical centre of Barga, that hosts the permanent exhibition of Bruno Cordati’s paintings and occasional exhibitions of contemporary artists. Since 2003, Casa Cordati has made available an apartment and four of its many rooms to visitors to Barga. The apartment is on the ground floor, the Foresteria is on the first floor, and the New Room and the Big Room are on the second floor.

Reviewed By robertsmithilfordWhat a fantastic place….don’t tell anyone else! Casa Cordati is basically an art gallery with rooms. And the bedrooms are wow! Large rooms with splendid views over Barga and the surrounding countryside. Wait until you see the covered roof terrace! Comfortable beds, warm spacious rooms with complimentary tea, coffee, fridge etc. Great value in the middle of town. Giardano is a very welcoming host. His grandfather painted many of the pictures in the galleries. Good restaurants are in the same street. We’d recommend L’Altana for an evening meal. There’s no breakfast but local shops are available a few minutes walk down the hill in the new town and there is cutlery, cups and plates in the rooms to make your own brekky. Casa Cordati is located in the heart of the old town and is one of the old buildings. It’s very quiet although the town clock can be a distraction in the street facing rooms. There is no car access but it’s only a couple of minutes walk from the main gate at Porta Reale. At the Porte Reale there is a car park but it’s limited to 2 hours free parking. You don’t need a car in Barga so we dumped ours in the free unlimited time car park behind the petrol station in the new town just down the hill. The tourist office is a 5 minute level walk away in the centre of the old town. Lots of walking itineraries are available there – we tried a couple and saw some stunning places.

Reviewed By AllEars83Can't speak highly enough about this place. Lovely accommodation with well maintained pool area in a beautiful setting. The hosts were extremely welcoming, bringing us lovely home cooked cake, crepes and pizza. They really went out of their way to make it an extra special holiday. Definitely the best place I have stayed in Italy.
