We arrived by taxi and left by E20 bus. The museum is arranged as an entrance building with shops and food vendors, then 8 pagodas (some of which were closed), then the main hall crowned by an enormous Buddha statue. We did not see the Buddha tooth relic, but visited four stupas at the top level. After a nice vegetarian lunch, we took a free shuttle van up to the monastery, and walked back through the grounds to the entrance. We were impressed by the grounds which are well kept.

This museum is pretty good. You can see not only the prehistoric civilizations of eastern Taiwan but the diverse cultures of aboriginal peoples. However, its location is really remote from wherever you are. The only way to get there is taxi; otherwise, you have to rent a scooter, which maybe a little inconvenient for foreign visitors. Also, the architectural style is really..... um......revival? It can be easily recognized that it’s been built for decadesssssss. Not a disadvantage, but a little surprising~

Beautifully laid out, this museum gives voice to an underrepresented group of war victims: women forced into sexual slavery to satisfy Japanese soldiers during WWII. It’s small, so it won’t take up too much of your time, and is an artfully presented exhibit of a barbaric piece of history.
