The Steenmeulen is a tourist attraction in Northern France. The mill is classified "Historical Monument". This mill is unique in the area because it has been built with bricks while the others are in wood. The mill is still making flour thanks to its current miller ! There is also a museum in the ancient farm building wich gathers objects, machines and other surprises of the life of the previous century. The owners offer you a guided tour for a few euros (4€ for the mill or the museum alone and 6.50€ for both, 50% reduction for Children from 6 to 12).

If you’re in the area, this is a must visit. We caught the underground and the bus out to Fromelles from Lille, takes about an hour in total and cost us€3.70 each. The museum is just down past the church and is part of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is very well kept. There is a lot of information in leaflets and from the very knowledgable staff. The museum itself is excellent, with all information in English, French and a couple of other languages. You also get a voice guide to listen to at the various numbered stations. Take the time and walk the route around the sites, it’s 8.5km or if driving you can safely stop at the sites. It says the walk takes approx 2.5hrs, we took 4hrs as we spent time at the sites. Take food and drinks with you as there are no shops enroute. Bus 235 leaves Lille CHR Oscar Lambret metro station at 11.35 heading to Estaires and get off at Fromelles, walk down past the church and the museum is on your left. The bus back departs at 17.44 and is number 235. It takes around 40mins.

Rendez-vous 2000 years ago with the biggest Roman forum discovered in France. Put your steps in Romans' walking in a 2.5 ha archeological site which was Bagacum's heart, Nervian territory's capital city. Statues of deities, Corinthian capitals, mosaics... The antic daily-life goes back to life thanks to the museum's rich collection. The 3D projection "Bak to Bagacum" rebuilds in synthetic images so you are able to realize the site's immensity. For young and old, plenty of activities take place all year !

Welcome to Dunkirk Museum 1940 - Operation Dynamo You will discover the complete story of the Battle of Dunkirk and of Operation Dynamo (26th May - 4th June 1940). The visit starts with a short archive movie. Then the exhibition consists of photos, maps, weapons, uniforms, vehicles, displays, and other artefacts from 1940 to give you a hint of what happened in Dunkirk in that time.
Good use of the limited space with some excellent exhibits, detailed narrative around the props and clear chronological design of the events leading up to and surrounding Operation Dynamo. Was quite busy when we went there, as for some reason it was free entry!
