The Peloponnese is not short of magnificent ancient sites and the Theatre of Epidavros is up there with the best of them. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the best preserved ancient structures in existence and is a 'must-do' if you are in this part of the world. The scale of the amphitheatre, which seat up to 14,000 people, is awe-inspiring and it's perfectly true that you can hear a coin drop on the stage from the highest seat. We were treated to an impromptu performance by another visitor, obviously keen to test out this claim about the acoustics, and the applause from the back of the theatre resonated as clearly as that from the front. It is definitely worth climbing up to the top if you can, the steps are a little uneven in places but perfectly manageable. The views from the top are amazing.

A 14th century it pops up among the narrow streets of the old town through the walls.It is a Catholic of the older Byzantine Monastery and still remains a part of the historic Vlatades Monastery.The frescoes are considered unique style and quality! Their colors are excellent

We were shown around by a local guide as part of our Greece tour. Although you'd be impressed by what you saw if you went by yourself I think we got more out of it with a guide - or maybe take a good guide book, there's so much to see and understand at this site. If you're feeling energetic there's a walk right up to the stadium at the top, it is worth it.

Greek/World history comes alive. The hop on hop off bus is an excellent tour of the city of Athens and one of it's stops is the Acropolis. A must see for sure. Bring good walking shoes and your camera and scratch this one off your bucket list, if you like history you're gonna love the Acropolis!

We visited Acropolis today. It is amazing to see Parthenon with its rectangular structure consisting of 17 columns in length by 8 columns in width- a huge structure dedicated to mythological goddess Athena. It takes you back 2500 years and makes you wonder about the life of folks then and the events that unfolded later on! Do not miss out the story of the Flag - when the nazis came in 1941, a young Greek soldier refused to change the Greek flag, instead wrapped it around himself and leapt to his death. He is remembered and honored even today. There is so much to see in Acropolis- be sure you have at least 2.5 hours! I also loved the story regarding the competition between Athena and Poseidon, and how she won!!

Ancient Thera is at the top of a mountain and well worth a visit for anyone enjoying archeology . Just a word of warning it is worth the 10euro fare for a mini bus up and down the winding road then to access the site it is a tiring uphill climb to the summit , the stunning views alone are superb and the bus allows two hours visit which is ample time to inspect the remains of the ancient Hellenistic city .

My wife and I were very happy that our ship, the MV Celestyal Olympia, visited Patmos, on a cruise around the Greek Islands. As practising Catholics, we looked forward to seeing the cave where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation. We took an optional tour (paid tour). The tour took us first to the cave, then to this magnificent monastery on top of the hill. While the cave had a lot religious significance, this monastery was a real sightseeing gem. Wonderful location, great views, and plenty of history. (it is 1000 years old, whereas St. John lived in the cave, in exile, over 1900 years ago). There is a fantastic little museum, where you can see some very interesting church treasures, including the document signed by the Byzantine Emperor Alexis in 1088, establishing this monastery. As we had taken a paid tour, we had an excellent guide, who gave us an enormous amount of information. She also pointed out the best places to get photos. The views are stunning. One caution: your transport cannot take you right up to the entrance, it will need to park a fair way below. So, there is some climbing involved. If it is rainy, the cobblestones will be slippery and dangerous. Not a place to take a stroller!

Beautiful church with some old mosaics and gorgeously carved pews, definitely worth a visit. You can also visit the crypt underneath which is quite interesting and has good descriptions in English.

It was a great suprise for us, walking back to the port from the castle, we got to Vlatadon Monastery. It is a beautiful building, the church was amazing, the view was breathtaking.
