Rani Ki vav

Rani Ki Vav is the oldest and the grandest stepwell in the state of Gujarat. It is situated at Patan and is believed to have been built during 1022 to 1063 AD. The construction was completed by the widowed queen Udayamati. She was the wife of King Bhimdev I, son of Mularaja, the founder of the Solanki dynasty of Anahilwada Pattan. It is a richly sculptured monument and a major tourist spot in Patan. The size of the Rani Ki Vav is so huge that the tourists appear to be ants climbing an anthill.

We visited this magnificent step well, which is more than 100km from Ahmedabad. The multi-storeyed structure dating back around 11th century requires climbing down through steps from ground level to go around each storey supported by stone pillars. We could go only two levels as it was difficult. It is not advisable for those having knee/ back problems to go down. Those who can climb down will get a marvelous sight of sculptures. However, we went around the boundary along the ground to reach the opposite side where we could get a view of the bottom of the well having water. Rani ki vav is too big when compared to adalaj step well we saw near Ahmedabad. This awe inspiring step well has found a place in one of the recent Indian currency note

Place is located near vadinar. Nearest city is jamnagar which is around 40-50 kms away. Best time to visit this place is early morning because sea water is very less and you will see most of sea animals like octopus, star fish, jelly fish, crabs etc. Better to hire guide so that they will help you find sea animals. Place is quite peaceful and should be visited with friends and family on weekends.

Great Rann of Kutch

Reviewed By sbdas11 - Leicester, United Kingdom

The entire experience of visiting the White Rann was truly memorable. We stayed at the Tent city for a night and visited the Rann from there . The Tent city stay was brilliant ,from the welcome to the food ( a little more variety could do more good to International travellors ) ,entertainment ,amenities (there are cycles, carts, ziplines ,para motoring ,spa within the Tent city top class . Every morning and evening there are buses taking the guests to the Rann. After a little ride ,you take camel carts to the centre. The view is breathtaking ,white all around. You have local artisans there .There is provision to wear Kutchi attire and take photos. We did that. The best part is the sunset and walking on the salt flat .We infact were a bit doubtful whether the salt flats had formed this year or not.Since we kept hearing that there was unprecedented rainfall in that area. But it was so breathtaking the view around us.So glad we went for a stay at the Tent city for the year end celebrations in 2019 .After sunset instead of taking the bus back to the city ,we took the camel cart and the ride in pitch darkness was thrilling. Rann Utsav and the White Rann together make a truly winning package for anybody.Highly recommended trip for all ages.

The Mahabat Maqbara is a mausoleum of the Nawabs of Junagadh who rule Junagadh between the 18th to 20th century. The building is free to enter and is an architectural wonder. The design is a magnificent fusion of Indian and European architecture, composed of elements from Indo-Islamic, Gothic Revival and a unique Junagadh style for the minars around the mausoleum. The latter are towers but with stairs on the outside and with pavilions on three levels. The floral decorative elements all over the mausoleum are outstanding, which the multi-domed roof of different sized domes are enchanting. The number one thing to see in Junagadh.
