I visited the “new” Royal Norwich for the first time on Friday and it was a wonderful day. The clubhouse is stunning....I love the contemporary open plan bar, restaurant and kitchen......the quality of the finish is second to none and it has a lovely feel. What really elevated it though were the staff, from walking in to reception, the pro shop and the bar and restaurant staff.....all super friendly and professional. Those of us that have played at lots of different golf courses know this is not always the case. Now on to the golf. A super course. I played the old Weston Park and whilst there are a small number of holes that remain, the transformation is amazing. Most holes are inviting from the tee......the devil though is in the detail. Well designed but tough bunkers and the greens, well, very big, lots of undulations and if you are the wrong side of the pin or putting from distance.....good luck! Excellent practice facilities as well. Finally, just want to comment on the 19th hole after the round. We sat outside in beautiful sunshine with the best burger I’ve ever had......delicious! It was obviously freshly made and do doubt with local ingredients.....well done Chef and the team! All I can say that this was one of the best golf days out I’ve had and I am really looking forward to visiting again. PS.....they have also got a small micro-brewery on site!

James Andrews Golf School

The James Andrews Golf School offers hourly, daily and multi day golf coaching for Beginner, Intermediates and Advanced golfers. This was my second visit to the James Andrews School of golf at Stoke by Nayland. The golf school use a structured approach to the main elements of the golf swing and then join them together. This allows you to focus and not get overloaded with information. The benefits of this approach are that, with a little adaptation, the same basic movements can also be easily applied to chipping and bunker play. On this visit, I stayed at the excellent Stoke by Nayland hotel (which is only a few hundreds yards way) and with two 18 hole golf courses, you also have the (free) opportunity to put into practice, what you have learned in the morning. Joe, who was the coach on my course, was quickly able to identify the particular faults in the swings of those who were attending, and he has a great classic swing to emulate! The school use Trackman technology, which is an excellent facility that provides instant feedback on ball speed, attack angle, club path etc. Trackman also records a video of each shot you hit, so you can then see an instant playback. All very clever!!! I would very much recommend a visit to the James Andrews School of Golf, if you’re looking to take up or improve your golf.

Hunstanton Golf Club

Described as “one of the most welcoming clubs we have ever experienced” by hiddenlinksgolf and “a connoisseur’s course jammed full of memorable quality holes” by Top100golfcourses. Hunstanton Golf Club is a friendly members’ club in which both ladies’ and men’s sections are fully integrated. A number of roll-ups during the week ensure that members can always turn up and get a game. In addition members may book tee times on our on-line tee booking facility. Many friendly competitions throughout the year and during our “Golf Week” in August ensure that golfers make lasting friendships here. The ladies’ section also is particularly active, with ladies’ competitions played on almost every Thursday (and many Sundays) of the year.

We decided to play Hunstanton as we thought a links course would be better after all the rain we have had for the last few months. The greeting from both the staff and the members was very friendly and the course held up very well. The 6th fairway was very soggy as was the 15th but we had been warned about them and it wasn't enough to detract from the experience. The greens ran true, the fairways were mainly dry and we didn't need to wipe much mud off the golf balls. The pace of play was good as it's mainly a two ball course. Once we finished, we popped in to the clubhouse and had lunch which was good and there was plenty of choice. There are some good courses in the UK and this was one of those that we were glad to have played and we want to return in the summer

Royal Cromer Golf Club

Reviewed By AndyBee - Tolleshunt Knights, United Kingdom

Sunday we played Sheringham (very scenic) and on the Monday we played Royal Cromer (which we preferred). It was a sunny morning, quite warm and moderate wind. We received a warm welcome from the Pro Shop and the pace of play was excellent (just over 3 hours for our 2-ball!). This is a "hidden" gem - a beautiful proper old fashioned golf club with a great course (more Parkland than Links) and at least 5 holes overlooking the sea\ with a sea view. We had a Seniors Roll Up group following us, and they were very quick in 4-balls and very friendly. Personally I played better on the Back 9 than the Front. I think I like the course because there are not many Par 3s - only 2 I think from memory (the 9th and 13th). Depending on the wind, a couple of Par 5s are possible to reach in 2 shots. My wife (Handicap 18) and myself (H\C 8) liked it so much that we decided to take up Country Membership. It's over 2 hours for us from Essex, but we think will be worth it. Afternoon tee time prices are good value.

I have played on the par 3 course multiple times and the footgolf there is brilliant a well looked after course and hopefully one day I will be brave enough and good enough to play on the full 18 holes as it looks a bit intimidating for me at the moment ????. Driving range is great and a friendly atmosphere which is good for someone just getting into golf

I had a thoroughly enjoyable round, the fairways and greens were in very good condition for late October. The course was challenging, but the fairways were forgiving. It was great value, unlike Great Yarmouth and Canister. The Bar overlooks the First tee, which is a great outlook to have a well deserved beer after your round.I look forward to playing it again. The staff and members of the golf club were very friendly and helpful.
