My son and I spent a fun afternoon making jewelry at one of Urban Eclectic Jewelry’s classes. We were able to select the piece we wanted to make and Tricia was great instructing us through the whole process. She is so patient and helps draw out your creativity. The store’s location is perfect in downtown Tamarindo.

Souvenir Leo

Reviewed By diverup1 - Langhorne, United States

The folks at the Tree House Hotel recommend that we stop here and we were glad we did. We purchased a few handmade items that Leo and his wife Marisol made themselves and were given a wonderful tour of their gardens that were full of orchids and other local flowers. Leo propagates many of the orchids himself and is proud of them. They also have several parrots that live freely in their yard and will give you an opportunity to hold them and take a photo. Not all of what they sell is handmade and you can find some of it in other shops, however, here you will definitely find wood carvings, jewelry, and other unique crafts that Leo and Marisol proudly call their own. We were happy to stop by this "mom and pop" souvenir shop and support this wonderful, local couple and we had a great time doing it. A highlight for me personally (as a beekeeper) was when Leo showed me his colony of tiny, non stinging pollinating bees that pollinate his orchids. He then walked me across the street to show me a few more that were living wild in some trees. We finished our time off there with a fresh coconut that leo offered us as a refreshing drink!

Biesanz Woodworks is a true hidden gem just south of downtown Escazu. I was traveling by myself and went there to see the workshop and amazing creations. Minor, my tour guide was extremely nice and knowledgeable of the land, plants, and wildlife around the workshop. He explained the different types of wood used and the process how each piece is hand crafted. it was truly incredible!! The bowls in the gallery are all one of a kind and unique. I left with 2 beautiful wood bowls. Definitely worth the visit!

Don’t miss this place if you can help it! This is the place where the guy will show you how he turns bowls from wood. He also will show off his fantastic garden which has sugar cane, a macadamia tree, and coffee plants amongst numerous others. He cut some cane for our family to try. He also has a bird feeder where we saw a Toucanette, and a Euphonia bird. He also let us try a lime right off the tree, and showed us his pineapple plant, plantain and banana trees. The gift shop features his woodwork, and the prices are the most reasonable there. You can find his work (probably his work) in gift shops, but this place has the best variety and prices. Best was when he let my husband try helping him turn a bowl on the lathe. The owner is a really kind man. We gave him money for generously sharing his time with us.

Roberto was such an excellent host. We couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable person help us understand the traditions, culture, and art of the Costa Rican people. A museum where you can actually purchase items at a very reasonable cost! This was our first museum entered in Costa Rica and it was well worth the time we spent there. If I had to do it over again, I'd purchase the seating hammocks and more handmade jewelry by local artists.

I was in the market for a one-piece bathing suit and shopping around in Tamarindo. I stumbled across this shop and was in love with several of the fabrics, but the specific cut that I wanted didn't come in fabric I liked. So the owner of the store pulled some options. i wanted something dark -- even asked her for black at first. She pulled me out of that (she loves color, which shows in her designs!) and we landed on a dark velvet pattern with bronze accents. It's truly gorgeous. She worked with me on the price point a bit and what really blew me away is they promised to have the hand-made custom piece in less than 24 hours. When I got back to the store the next day, the suit fit perfectly. It was exquisite and I'm so glad to have it. I will order from them again online in the future, or next time I'm in Tamarindo! Highly recommend. Great handmade product and amazing customer service.

There were some beautiful masks and animals craft out of quality wood. Frogs, sloths, mascaws, toucans... How to decide which one to take? All of them are so beautiful. We met Gerardo, he is making them with his bare hands. We met his family too. He told us something about his life and the history of the Bribri's and Keköldi's. He also told us about wood carving and how he make all this beautiful things. Gerardo really is a nice guy, it is obvious that he loves his work. I can't remember when was the last time I met such a nice person. So, after long talk we bought a mascaw and a toucan. And guees what! He gave us a gift - little mask! I can't tell you how happy I am that we stopped the car, met Gerardo and bought his amazing wooden crafts. You must visit him.
