I bought a beautiful ring in this store. I went in with a very clear idea of what I was looking for. I found a rose gold, simple, black opal ring which I am now absolutely in love with. The service was good, they really try to make your purchase something special and make a big deal about you as a customer. Can definitely recommend.

Little did I expect to pet a friendly skink when I walked down the stairs to Lighting Ridge Opal store... Staffed by friendly, thoughtful and informative staff, this is a gemstone store plus a small zoo. I was given a wonderful demonstration of how opals are polished and graded. This is a family business with many of the folks who work there descended from the opal miner founder. I found their prices competitive and their quality, high. Bought a lovely pair of silver + opal ear rings + pendant with a stylized kangaroo setting. They were also very helpful with a disabled friend who accompanied me.

On a recent trip to Australia and New Zealand our tour director recommended that we go to Altmann and Cherny if we were interested in opal jewelry. This store is wonderful with a wide variety of jewelry of varying price and style. We selected a ring but wanted to compare at another recommended store, and received no pressure whatsoever about looking elsewhere. We knew right away that Altmann and Cherny offered a much better selection at comparable price. When we returned, after all the paperwork had been completed to purchase the piece, we were told that they would not sell us the piece as there was an undetectable flaw. They offered a refund, but then worked with us to find another comparable piece, which I absolutely love. We have never had an experience with a store of such wonderful repute and honesty, and immediately told our entire tour about this amazing event. Several went back to shop. We highly recommend Altmann and Cherny for their outstanding collection of jewelry, their service and honesty, and the amazing experience they provided.

You need to turn off the highway a few kilometres north of Swansea and then drive about a bit of a distance to this little gem of an oyster shop. The rustic ambiance, charming sales person and the fantastic fresh oysters were worth every minute of the drive to give us one of our best memories of Tasmania. Based on this experience, I think I have over-rated all my other reviews. The beautiful smile and pride in her work and product shown by the lady who served us (I should have noted her name) reflected the quality of the beautiful oysters, gathered from the leases outside the caravan shop in a glorious environment. Australia can’t do much better than this.

Alice Springs School of the Air Experience

History, Lifestyle & Innovation…Since 1951 when Alice Springs School of the Air was established, it has been at the forefront of developing techniques that continually enhance learning experiences of students living in remote areas of Central Australia.Immerse yourself in history, learn about outback lifestyle, discover world-class innovations and be inspired by what has been and continues to be a uniquely Australian method of education – achieved in “The World’s Largest Classroom”.

Our tour of this attraction was an off train excursion whilst doing The Ghan train trip from Darwin to Adelaide. We were taken by coach a short distance from the train but still within the townsite of Alice Springs. We were greeted by a very bubbly woman who showed us in to a classroom-like room for an informative video on the formation and workings of the school, formed in 1951, which is the largest classroom in the world. To think that the students are in remote areas and spread over an area in excess of 500,000 square miles is mind boggling. After the video you move in to an adjoining room to witness an actual lesson involving a teacher and student. There is so much to see and absorb in such a short time that you need to go for yourself and learn about this modern day wonder. As you leave there is the customary gift shop with a very good array of souvenirs to purchase with all the funds going to the administration and running of the school. It truly is an amazing place to visit.
