Glenview Gardens & Fairy Trail

Open end of May 2021 . A beautiful 3 acre garden with amazing designs and fun for all the family in West Cork, including a Fairy Fort and Fairies Trail. This 3 acre garden is full of surprises with each garden style flowing into the next. The front garden contains a sunken white garden, an Italianate canal and a Japanese garden. The boundary wisteria walk opens out into the bog garden and woodland area, from where you can continue to the tea house to enjoy a view of the Mediterranean and tropical gardens. Wander over the birch mound, which is surrounded by the wildflower meadow, into the walled kitchen garden to view the seasonal vegetables. The kids will have great fun visiting the Fairy Fort built right through the birch mound or searching for the fairy houses in the Fairies woods. View the Budgies, Parakeets, Finches, Ducks and Chickens in the Aviary.

Recently I took a trip to glenview gardens and had a fantastic experience. It is not only a great trip for garden lovers but also has plenty on offer for kids. From fairy trails, dinosaurs, teddy bear picnics, birds, goats, fish, rabbits and lots of other surprises along the way. I would highly recommend a trip to see the gardens. Unfortunately it was raining for our trip but that still didn’t dampen our spirts. I can only imagine how beautiful it is on a sunny day.

Bantry House & Garden

Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

We spent a couple of hours touring the gardens and the public rooms inside the house. My partner and I are both decoration and history buffs, so we took our time discovering the lovely interiors and really enjoyed ourselves. Outside, the views from the main terrasse overlooking the bay are fantastic and climbing all the way to the top is worth the exercise. The gardens and the grounds are quite pretty and a lot of fun to explore. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Liss Ard Gardens

Reviewed By Ashimo - Limerick, Ireland

James Turrell's Sky Garden at Liss Ard Estate was my favourite thing that we visited on our recent trip to Clonakilty (and that's saying something). Before you visit you should check to see when the Sky Garden is available for public viewing. We checked their Facebook page but you can also ring or email them. When we arrived we met the most fabulous lady at reception (unfortunately we didn't get her name). She was so so friendly and helpful and didn't mind that we kept coming back to her with various queries and requests. We collected the key for the garden and had the place virtually to ourselves bar a couple of families who wandered in (tip: close the gate behind you after you enter). The garden itself is so tranquil and really allows time to take in the beautiful sky above (a good time to visit is when the sun isn't high in the sky and of course when it's not raining). Of course, when in the Sky Garden it's important to be respectful of this wonderful piece of earth art which we are privileged to view. Climbing on the sides of the crater has caused damage to this artwork so if visiting with children (or overgrown children) it's important to make sure they refrain from the temptation of climbing. Otherwise there is a very real prospect that it will eventually be closed to public viewing. After you drop the key back to reception consider purchasing the Sky Garden book for just €5 which details the planning, development and concept of the garden.

This was my 2nd visit to Fota House and Gardens. However this time we did a guided tour of the mansion. It was really cool and informative. We then checked out the surrounding gardens and orangery. Gardens are well kept and the cafe still remains a treat!
