Transfagarasan Highway

Reviewed By 118val - Shepparton, Australia

Because we travel mid October we were really fortunate that it was still open. The first part was magnificent with the sun shining through the colourful Autumn leaves. The road covered the southern section of the Carpathian mountains for 90 kilometers with steep hairpin bends, long S-curves and steep descents, climbs to 2,042 metres with snow in the upper sections. We stopped at Balea Lake and beautiful waterfall which was very peaceful as few people were travelling. some of the tunnels could be better lit however it really is a breath taking drive.

Reviewed By Viorel_25 - Sibiu, Romania

The Princely Church of Saint Nicholas is one of the main tourist attractions in Curtea de Arges, being the first monument of large religious architecture in Wallachia. The Royal Court of Arges was originally built in the 13th century by the Roman voivode Seneslau. The Church of Saint Nicholas in Curtea de Arges is one of the most representative monuments of medieval Romanian architecture, as well as the oldest voivodship foundation in Wallachia. The interior murals, especially valuable, are made between 1364-1369, due to them, as well as its architectural and historical value, the church being included on the list of historical monuments and in the UNESCO Indicative List.

If you go to Romania, you cannot miss out on a hiking trip in the Bucegi Mountains. We did a one day hike, and I wished we could do some more and stayed more time in that region. The blue cross hike up from Busteni to the Babele is breathtaking, adventurous and awesome! Don't miss out.
